Tsudaeba Coronation Ceremony

Overview

The crowing of the tsudeaba (royal consort) is the formal acknowledgement of the power bestowed upon the second most powerful person in Eoion. If the consort and ruler are already married at the time the ruler is crowned, the two ceremonies will be combined and all five steps of the Baejan Coronation Ceremony will be performed. However, if the ruler marries after their coronation, the ceremony is changed slightly.   Whether or not the marriage is before the ruler's ascension or after does not change the power structure, only the order of ceremonies. Historically, the marriage celebration confers the status of 'royal consort' onto the person in question, but the coronation is when the new consort officially gains political power. In the modern era, however, after marriage, the new consort takes on all power and responsibility. The coronation itself is a formal recognition of their status.

Execution

The crowning of a royal consort is divided between the marriage ceremony and the official coronation, which take place one after the other in the case that the ruler is not married at the time of their own coronation. One day after the marriage, the consort will be crowned.

Standard

This procedure is considered standard for a tsudaeba coronation ceremony taking place if the marriage between the baejan and their spouse occurs after the baejan has been coronated. The ceremony is divided into four parts.   At the end of a normal marriage ceremony, the couple will leave for their honeymoon after the banquet at the end of the day is complete. However, a royal wedding is followed the next day by the official crowning of the royal consort. It is only after this that the couple will leave.   On the night before the coronation, the new royal consort will sleep for the first time in the residence set aside for them while their spouse sleeps in the Imperial Residence. This sleeping arrangement standard for the rest of their marriage. While they can sleep in the same bed in the Imperial Residence at any time, in general, this is only done when they are attempting to produce an heir.   In the morning, the new royal consort is dressed in their most formal attire and their hair done for the first time in the intricate braiding patterns associated with their status. Ornaments are also placed in the hair, mainly representing light and essence magic (although all essences are present) to symbolically associate them with the royal family's magic. This is a holdover from before the royal family began inbreeding to show that the new consort is part of the family. The dressing constitutes the first part of the ceremony, the First Dressing (Bù Dzehuyidev).   After this comes the second portion of the ceremony, the First Tsirin's Escort (Tsirini Bù Usokorei). At the entrance to the Royal Consort Residence, the new consort is met by their new contingent of the Wenutsuekul Gandayan Zitsoeii, along with the tsirin created by their spouse. The royal consort will ride the tsirin from their residence to the High Grand Hall where the coronation is to take place. This is the first time that a royal consort will ride the tsirin during an official ceremony. This is meant to symbolize the Ilyannoi species' acceptance of the royal consort.   The third section of the ceremony consists of the crowning itself and presentation of the Gixi Wudarol. Once at the High Grand Hall, the royal consort will dismount and enter. At the front, the baejan is seated in their throne, with the tsudaeba's throne beside them, to their left. One third of the way to the throne, the royal consort will kneel and trace the letters of Ilya Shiroko's name to ask the Founder to guidance. At two thirds, they will turn to the flag at the back of the hall and nod five times. When the royal consort reaches the steps leading to the throne, they kneel before their spouse.  The ruler will first present the gix and then places the crown of the royal consort on their head. Once this is complete, the tsudaeba will stand and, taking the ruler's hand, will join their spouse on the dais and both will be seated on their respective thrones. The wider court turns slightly to kneel and prostrate themselves to the ruler, then they turn once more to bow to the royal consort. Finally, they kneel to both at once. This section is referred to as the Recognition of the Crown (Pùhai Wogúbu), meaning both that the royal consort is officially recognized by the ruler (the crown) and the consort's crown (their status) is recognized by the empire.   Lastly, at the end of the ceremony, the royal consort and ruler exit the High Grand Hall and both mount the ruler's tsirin for the Second Tsirin's Escort (Tsirini Bare Usokorei). They then go out of the Golden City and proceed through the main streets of Niuus. This is the public's first sighting of the royal consort and baejan together as official rulers rather than simply spouses.   Upon their return to the Golden City, a feast is held and gifts are given to the tsudaeba, just as they are to the baejan during their coronation feast. The next morning, the two will leave for their honeymoon.

Deviations

If the royal consort and ruler are crowned on the same day, both will ride the tsirin to the High Grand Hall. Once the ruler is crowned, they will coronate their spouse and then both will sit on their thrones. The remaining members of the court will bow to them both simultaneously, first five times to the ruler (once for each of the five original kingdoms that made the empire) and then they will proceed to the three bows standard for the tsudaeba coronation ceremony. Finally, the First and Second Circle, which are part of the Baejan Coronation Ceremony will be done with both members of the couple and the second tsirin ride of the tsudaeba will not take place.   The current tsudaeba Erasure, did sleep in the Royal Consort's Residence the night before his coronation. However, rather than sleeping alone as is standard, Taras Shiroko slept in the same bed with him. This was because they had not slept apart since the day they had met and the thought of sleeping alone caused both a great deal of anxiety.
