Overview
The Wenutsuekul Gandayan Zitsoeii (pron. weh'noo'tsoo'eh'kool gændyahn zeet'tso'ey'ee), translated as Defenders of the Imperial House and termed Wenutsuganeii for short, are an elite team of guards whose job it is to defend the royal family and the
Gandenye. While their activities are spread across the City, their primary focus is always the ruler.
Currently, the leader of the Wenutsuganeii is
Midas Araca, although his ascent to the position was highly unusual.
Rankings and Duties
There are a total of 2,000 people working in the Wenutsuganeii. These are divided into four ranks with differing responsibilities for each one. All who are assigned to this unit are highly skilled in various forms of martial arts and weaponry. Being able to perform magic is favored, but not a requirement if the person can prove they are effective in combat without it. Most have at least a practical ability to fight using essence magic.
The lowest ranking and newest members are used to guard the walls that surround the Gandenye. Their main task while on duty is to watch for threats and check each person that enters and exits. When not guarding the walls, they are further trained by more senior and experienced members. They are to learn the entire layout of the City so they can defend it at a moment's notice.
Above these are those who have memorized the City's layout and gained more practical skills. To rise to this rank, being able to manipulate essence magic is highly valued. These people tend to either personally guard members of the extended royal family or patrol the inner grounds of the City, generally close to the department buildings and imperial residences.
Next highest are assigned personally to the aunts, uncles, parents, siblings, spouse, and children of the ruler. Their focus is to protect these people unless there is a threat to the ruler specifically. When the closer family is in the City, they are to remain close. Usually, there are between two and five Wenutsuganeii assigned to each person, with the number increasing with close proximity to the ruler. The heir and royal consort are afforded six in order to ensure that they are always safe.
The highest ranking members, along with the leader, are assigned to protect the ruler specifically. This smaller unit is composed of the most skilled and highly trained warriors in the empire. Depending on what the ruler is doing at any given time, there may be between seven and ten Wenutsuganeii around them. The only time the ruler is not with at the very least one or two guards is when they are in their private bedroom.
