High Ship Seer

The rank of High Ship Seer is a slightly informal title that belongs to the leader of the largest sailor's guild in Yzel, the Buprahb Sniəhalo (Water Walkers). With sea based industries being the backbone of the Yzelian economy, sailors and traditions involving them have played a key role in the nation's history since the founding of the kingdom. A "Ship Seer" is someone who has experience in many part of a ship and could, theoretically, perform any function. In essence, they are able to 'see' every aspect of how a ship runs, both unto itself and within a large fleet. The High Ship Seer is one who has been granted their high post out of respect for their vast and varied experience.    Attaining this rank is not a lifetime appointment. One is elected to the position by a full vote of the guild. Once the position is granted, the person serves for three years. They can be reelected up to four times. After this point, they cannot be elected again, but carry the secondary title, Ship's Eye, for the rest of their lives and are still granted a great deal of respect among other sailors.
