The Eternal Warden

In the heart of Coral Spire City, hidden away in the deepest chambers of the central gargantuan spire, lies Azureflame trapped in a timeless slumber. Azureflame sacrificed himself to serve as the beating heart of the powerful illusionary magic hiding the city, and creating the eternal storm surrounding it.
Azureflame, a magnificient water dragon of tremendous power and wisdom, once freely roamed the depths of The Sundered Wastes's expansive ocean. His gleaming scales reflected the hues of the deepest sea, and his eyes were said to hold the vastness of all seas combined. He was a figure of awe and reverence, respected by all for his wisdom and benevolent nature. He was affilated with the Coral Spire City in its prime, assisting with leadership and helping the nation advance far ahead of any others in technology.
As the region began to transform, the seas receding and the arid wastes encroaching, Azureflame foresaw the city's inevitable doom. Despite his mighty power, he was unable to halt the relentless march of time and change. Due to his sheer will of wanting to save the city, he consulted ancient elemental spirits for guidance. In response, they presented him with an incredibly difficult decision.
In order to preserve Coral Spire City, Azureflames only option would be to sacrifice his freedom and enter a perpetual state of magical slumber. In doing so, his tremendous life force could be channeled into a protective barrier that would shield the city, preserving its structure and warding off potential intruders. And with a bit of a miracle the barrier would last long enough that the inhabitants of the city could perform a ritual to wake Azureflame once again. In the face of this dire decision, Azureflame did not hesitate as he wanted to preserve as much of the city as he could. For the city he loved, he choose a life of slumber.
To this day, Azureflame remains in his slumber, venerated by all the inhabitants of Coral Spire City. They worship him and devote their lives to finding a way to restore the ocean that once was.
