Coral Spire City

In the heart of The Sundered Wastes lies a magical oasis, a testament to a bygone era survives, flourishing even amidst the harsh sands. This is the Coral Spire City, a timeless oasis from an epoch when the now desolate wasteland was a thriving undersea kingdom.   While a population exists still in the Coral Spire City, it is not on the map of the world. As the sea levels began to drop the sea dragon <name> of the city created a powerful magical illusion to guise it to the ongoing changes. This ultimate sacrifice put the dragon in a comatose state, magic ebbing from it for millenia to keep the city protected. Those that do come close to the city simply refer to it as the forbidden wastes; dust storms and extreme haze cause adventurers to lose themselves along the way, those that delve into it often die or come out near death with a life-altering experience.   Constructed primarily from coral, the cityscape of Coral Spire City presents a vibrant palette of pastels and iridescents that starkly contrast the surrounding ochre desert. Over countless centuries, the city's structures have undergon a fascinating metamorphosis, changing from the typical rough sharp coral to a soft sand-beaten husk. One would've expected the coral to die off end erode entirely, but the protective magic has kept an undergound inlet of seawater intact providing strength to the coral allowing it to be beaten yet strong.   The city's centerpiece is the gargantuan Coral Spire that spirals towards the heavens. Its structure, and intricate network of coral branches, appear alive, as if breathing with the pulse of the ocean. It is at the base of this spire in a safeguarded chamber that the dragon still sleeps. Legend tells that the Spire served as the divine conduit between the realm of the sea and the stars above.   Outside inhabitants are rarely allowed into the city, but the occasional wanderer has been accepted into the community to serve the rest of their life there. These wanderers are usually at their wits end or on a sacrifical pilgrimage only to find this new world and develop a new meaning to life.   The most common inhabitants of the city are merfolk from a bygone era, and have evolved to live in the underwater portions of the city as well as the arid ones.
