Grace Barrett Character in Secrets Series | World Anvil

Grace Barrett

Write about a person who defies social expectations. How do people react to their unconventional life?   Grace is the fourth child of Beth and Arthur Barrett she is wild, carefree, and impulsive. She isn't interested in men. She enjoys riding horses, shooting, hunting, and anything that involves being outdoors. She is a strong-willed, independent woman who doesn't like to be told how to live her life. As the third daughter, the expectations for her are much different than her elder sisters. She spends much of her time, hunting, and is also highly proficient at riding and racing horses. She is close to her elder brother and mostly stays clear of the family drama. As the eccentric sister, no one thinks much of her wearing pants and racing around on horseback. She does stay out of the public eye, as she didn't go to town and her friends are also discreet. The social impact of her behavior is minimal. She also keeps a companion with her as a chaperone which makes her wild behavior a bit less peculiar. It doesn't hurt that this female friend is a well-to-do heiress.   They have been connected for quite some time, and although they are rumored to be more deeply connected, the rumors are unfounded.   Grace is a determined young woman who doesn't hesitate to step into a traditionally male role to protect her family and help raise them from the circumstances that would damn them. She is the one who chooses what each member should do after the fateful events and makes a plan to secure their finances and pay off the debts that have fallen to them. She also planned the funerals for those who needed them, especially since her sisters proved unable to do so. She also later became business partners with her brother-in-law, raising her family standing enough that the unpleasantness was nearly forgotten.   As a lover of all things equestrian, Grace has a favorite horse. Charlie was gifted to Grace on her 16th birthday. He is an Appaloosa Cremello blanket. They are very fond of each other, and Grace jokes that he, "has to wash more often than she does," since his coat is "apt to get dirty." This is both true because of his lighter coloring, but also ironic because she is apt to get just as muddy as her horse.    Grace subscribes to the following journals on the sport:
  • Forest and Stream
  • The American Sportsman
  • The American Field
  • Outdoor Life
  • Recreation, Outing, and Turf
  • Field, and Farm
  • With respect to Boston and its surrounding areas, and as much as some were loathed to accept it, Grace Barrett was at the early age of 18 years an expert in the regional taxonomy.
