Synthetic Human

Also known as artificial persons and androids.   Synthetics produced by Kamiya Corporation are designed as self-contained artificial intelligences in bodies which closely resemble humans. They are traditionally considered to follow Asimov's Three Laws of Robots and their artificial intelligence programs are limited to human service. KCMs were intended as servants to mankind, appliances with enough intelligence to be given orders and function without supervision. An example of this kind of synthetic is Erik, a KCM-20 unit assigned to EMCS Temperance.   Synthetics produced by Jones-Oseria Northern Institute are designed as synthetic vehicles for uploaded consciousnesses. Originally planned as medical vehicles for human/synthetic consciousness transfers in connection with terminal physical illnesses. They have no on-board operating systems until a consciousness is uploaded. An example of this kind of synthetic is the unfinished unit stolen by Harry Mudd. Harry uploaded his consciousness from the web illegally into an unfinished JONI-SPEC unit and took control of the unit to make his escape from the Jones-Oseria Northern Institute facility on Luna.
