Aestasea Beiris

by Zachary McJoynt

Tenets of Faith

The Tenents of the Oath of Conquest
Douse the Flame of Hope.
It is not enough to merely defeat an enemy in battle. Your victory must be so overwhelming that your enemies’ will to fight is shattered forever. A blade can end a life. Fear can end an empire.
Rule with an Iron Fist. Once you have conquered, tolerate no dissent. Your word is law. Those who obey it shall be favored. Those who defy it shall be punished as an example to all who might follow.
Strength Above All. You shall rule until a stronger one arises. Then you must grow mightier and meet the challenge, or fall to your own ruin.

Personal history

All legends have their start, and so I’ll begin by writing mine here.   My name is Aestasea, those on the surface attribute the last name of Beiris to my titles as well. I have given that name to myself since my mother was a simple servant and did not have a House name. Let me pull back a moment, as you might not truly understand.   I was born on the 2nd of Solis 1184 AC. I was born into the lower class society in Sschindylryn, City of Portals. Far beneth the High Sanctuaries, standing tall with its black spires and eerie green light, Sschindyrlryn is the shortcut to almost anywhere in the World. At the height of Ty'ainadr's Pinnacle sits none other than a Gate directly to the divine Demonweb Pits.   Mother was a simple servant of House Ty'ainadr but my birth heralded good fortune to her and my siblings. I’m Lolthinnúr or in the Common Language Drow Elf. More than that, I’m Szarkai, Ghost Spider in Lolthinnúrian, explicitly favored by Lolth Herself with my birth. My skin isn’t the light purple tone of mother, nor are there any similarities to my siblings. Rather, my skin is a stark, pale white and my irises are more akin to pink in the daylight than the common hateful red of my kind. Albinism is what the surface dwellers attribute to it to, but no, it is a sign that Lolth has blessed me.   From an early age, I was brought in and sheltered by House Ty’ainadr, and quickly began studies under Lolth’s priestesses where I, as expected, showed great magical affinity and quickly became a Priestess of The Spider Queen. The birth of a Szarkai is a rare to the extreme occurrence. The death of one needlessly on the streets would not only be undesirable but would be an insult to Lolth.   Know this, this is a privilege that isn’t all the glamor as it may seem. Recieving this of Lolth’s blessing also comes with the expectation that one can succeed at any tasks Lolth deems important, dangerous, or merely whatever amuses her in the moment. Any Lolthinnúr who desires to elevate their status will be tested relentlessly. Any sign of weakness is punished, botching the assignment is punished, and failure to act, punished. The higher your position the more demanding the tasks. The reward is being allowed to continue your existence, but it is also an incremental boost of power, favor, and position in Lolthinnúr society.   I have yet to fail and have no desire to find out what would happen if I would.   Being both a priestess and a Szarkai, I have been tested far more than any others. Lolth’s teachings focus on the individual overcoming adversity. There is nothing against using others; in fact it would be encouraged. Ultimately I have to succeed and cannot rely on others. Many of her tests focus on the magnitude of individual success. In my case it was not even for mere amusement since I blend in on the surface easily, not requiring any magics to change my appearance. I am a ghost within the society of the accursed sun-walking elves. All I need is myself. That is what brought me to the surface. I can easily spy on societies above. I can come and go as I please with no one the wiser.   Over the last century, I have lived in the so-called High Elven societies of the Anorenúr, before moving on to the Ithilvanúr. They are all so full of themselves thinking themselves as so incredibly advanced and powerful. Given recent events surrounding the Veliuonan Civil War that I may have dabbled my hand in, I have proven how weak and petty they are. I was able to easily help encourage both sides to fight one another. I barely bumped a domino and they did the rest themselves.   In only a few short years their maps had been redrawn and their culture forever impacted. Elyn'aran, "Our Home" in Elvish is in tatters. Their arrogance, I find to be quite amusing. My task was to monitor and destabilize, when and where I can. It has proven all too easy to pull off. I have found myself bored of their petulant, mundane lives they find themselves in; the burden of superiority bumping shoulders with the inferior. I have kept up with some acquaintances I have interacted with to keep relationships intact, as tedious as it can be to tolerate and act the part.   Lately, I have taken upon the life of an adventurer both as a cover and importantly to give some actual challenge and variety to life. But here on the surface I do see an opportunity that I believe Lolth Herself has given me. I have been afforded time to flourish and develop my skill, arsenal, and even followers to make my mark on the world.   I plan to eventually start my own house in Sschindylryn. Many nobles there wouldn’t stand the thought of an upstart. However, with my roots in the Ty’ainadr Household, and the alliances I can make with and against their enemies, and the obvious favor of Lolth upon me, I will rattle the foundations of Sschindylryn and become a Matron myself! The first Matron Mother of House Beiris!
