Spriggan

As time and seasons were created, The Goddess of Time, Calen created the spriggans to herald its passage. Spriggans are tree-based fae who take after the trees in their regional forests.
Spriggans are the harmony between time and nature who have physically manifested as fae. Most of their population reside in Autumnallia and act as wardens of the autumn forest.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

Spriggans are one of the few sapient species that do not need food. As they have plant heritage, they simply need a water source and some sunlight to create sustenance.

Biological Cycle

Spriggans, of the civilized races, is the most in tune with the passing of seasons, their body physically alters with the passing of time, while mainly in the pigment of their skin, the seasons can also change their hair and demeanor as well.
This is presented in a similar fashion as temperate trees, such as many spriggans losing their hair in the winter than to have it grow back in the spring. This is a rule of thumb however and not the law. A spriggan who travels from an area of the globe to an area where the season may or may not adapt to the change. Not all changes are as radical either, as with the season of winter, not all Spriggans may lose their hair. Some may have it just go silver or white while others may become the color of raw bark.
Over the seasons, some spriggans who represent certain trees will grow fruit from their hair, others may produce nuts and seeds, and others may bloom flowers.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Their faces hold similar features of other fae, with a less pronounced nose and lacking any defined ears. They have a triangular shape to their irises. Their eye color is normally green or brown. Some eye colors will change with the season becoming blue during the winter and orange/red during the summer.
Most notably is the leaves that grow from branches on their head in a manner similar to hair. The leaves grow and fall off as the season's change. The leaves on their hair are similar to the tree they closest represent. This can also create rare traits such as dogwood and cherry trees that flower or even grow fruit.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Spriggans have two naming practices. That of the fae, which is similar to the elvirr and satyrs. These names are written as short poems that are meant to be prophetic of their purpose. Though the vagueness of these poems often leads to odd life decisions. Ex: Viirë Vorra, Shuauli 'Hilaiwë, Aiwenlba Vheshal, Jhiolirin, Zshu Valë, and Farindale Palaish
Alternatively and more commonly, spriggans will take names from elements of nature. Examples would be Strongleaf, Cedarroot, Cherrygrowth, and Old Growth.

Common Dress Code

Spriggans will wear thin robes and sarongs similar to that traditionally worn in the Hal Varti. Sometimes they can be seen wearing plain clothing such as shirts, tunics, and bodices with skirts. The other option is that a Spriggan may not wear anything at all. The reason for clothing is more for ceremony and purpose than for modesty, though they do accommodate modesty for races who see nudity as more taboo.

History

There have not been too many populations of spriggans who have left Autumnallia. As such, the history of Spriggans echos the growth and maintenance of the forest itself. The only thing stopping its expansion is the toxic desert of the Hal Varti and the mountainous range of Dorin.
It is with this maximization of Autumnallia that some spriggans have migrated from their homeland to plant and grow trees in other lands. As of now, there is an effort to limited success to grow a forest out of the Knopian plains. Some Spriggans have moved to the Hrovarëa to better cultivate it and ward off the evil creatures who reside within.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Spriggans naturally oppose those who oppose nature. They tend to see less of dwarves, mechans, and o'doule for their inventions and desertion from nature. They sometimes carry a naivety to totookichtin as they see them as warders of coastlines and the waters.
Satyrs and elvirr are both seen as kin, spriggans look past the borders and political differences seeing their feuds and wars as meaningless and pointless in the grand scheme of things.
Homunculi have found their own place in spriggan society and so long as they abide by nature, they are welcome with open arms.

Their bodies are thin but sturdy. Their bodies are similar to shape and texture as the trees in that area. They have wide, sturdy, root-like feet which they use to feed.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Their skin is that of smooth bark with grain and texture that closely resemble a particular tree. This gives spriggans a diverse array of appearances as they can be similar in features to anything ranging from birch to dogwood. One can usually tell a spriggans regionality on what kind of tree they represent. New tree types are born based on their regionality and the closeness to the tree. It is incredibly unlikely that a spriggan will create a type of tree that does not exist in nature as that goes against nature.
