Jaymesport

Jaymesport is a port town off the Kas Velzak. It is seen as a cheaper alternative to Dour Shore though the tradeoff is the journey through the cave path into the Crimson Mountains and through the Peatlands. This can pose as dangerous to some but may provide far more profit due to cheaper port fees and fewer regulations on what comes into town.
It is known for being a rough city full of downtrodden individuals. The town itself is slowly sinking into the swamp and is covered in mud. The ground that is not soiled is far and few between and higher tides can lead to some of the town being underwater.
This town can be a good place for leisure for some sailors. Bars and brothels are plentiful. there are some credible gambling establishments where a sailor can spend and win money as well.

Industry & Trade

Most locals know what really goes through Jaymesport, though it is a practice not to speak about it. Contraband is where most of the money comes from in Jaymesport. Bing a separate port from Dour Shore but close enough to move wares into the city is a common trade route for those who sell illicit and illegal goods.
Bootleggers run moonshine and high proof whiskey to the capital and out to sea. Distilleries are far more difficult to keep clean in the swamp but the booze is far more potent.
Being a port, Jaymesport has its fair share of imports as well. Legitimate goods and cheap port fees work as a disguise for other goods coming in and out of town.
Farmland is scarce but there are some farmers near the mountains with livestock who supply the town with local meats.

History

In 1736 SA, the once-pirate Vicarious Jaymes began using the passage through the Peatlands and the Crimson Mountains to smuggle wares into the capital. Over time, running the port for other sailors and pirates to do the same thing became far more lucrative and put less risk on Vicarious Jaymes.
Thus Jaymesport was founded on the 3rd of Solstis, 1744. Over time, only a little interference with authorities has occured. Those who due make the travel are often bribed to say otherwise and are sent on their way back to the capital.

Architecture

Jaymesport is a muddy, dirty down. Built on wetlands, the down is held up by a series of concrete slabs that are in of themselves sinking into the swamp. Those who live in Jaymesport use a combination of wood pathways and hay to absorb the mud. There have been some attempts to support the town by magical means, though that has had limited success.
Buildings are wooden in structure with a gravel or concrete base. Thatch roofing is the most popular choice though some have wooden shakes. Most buildings are in close quarters with each other with some being conjoined. There are many muddy back alleys that are less maintained.

Geography

Jaymesport rests on the lip of the Gulf of Dour on the southern peninsula. Jaymesport is part of the Peatlands south of the Crimson Mountains. It is open to the Kas Zelvak Ocean.
North and east of Jaymesport is the Crimson Mountain Range followed by more peatlands.
