The Salvaged Gods

Of all the variations on the Guardian Faith, I believe the Gods that the The Forgotten Kingdoms salvaged to be the most peculiar indeed...

--Chamberlain of the Circle of the Heart in Golryon, 380 AB

The Forgotten Kingdoms were scattered tribes turned civilizations, always faced with death following the destruction of the great Reivanta. Disconnected for the most part across the great deserts for most of their history, each kingdom was built around holy sites that guarded against the terrible sandstorms of the Wastes... holy sites of ancient Reivanta.   Unlike the original creators, the primitive barbarians that survived Reivanta did not understand the Guardians, however, they saw the iconography depicting these Guardians in various fashions... and understood them in their own ways. The visage of Tarahn turned into Az-aka, the God of Shields, to the Kingdom of Al-Ahruun in north Abalos. Father Verti's shrine in Khufu's Cairn became a shrine to bird-headed gods, a pantheon of thirty-four deities that archaeologists constantly fail to understand the complexities of. All of these tribes worshiped the gods of Reivanta in warped ways, which translated when they became great civilizations, before their destruction.   One of the most peculiar is the deity of the Kingdom of the Al-Mosaks, in the eastern Tythis Expanse spreading into far west Kahalarii. Mazekstan, who's identity is frequently debated, but is always connected to spirits and water. Theories include being a god of Protection, a god of Spirits, a god of Memory, a god of the Ocean, and on and on. The prevailing belief of scholars in the Library of Evandyr is that Mazekstan is the God of Life and Protection, and was depicted as inseparable from the water, giving the notion that water was His gift. Lord of Lives and Water, his tears are the rivers and rains, and he shields the Kingdom from He Who Dwells Beneath Our Feet. However, Mazekstan's spiritual connotations are undeniable, as every shrine and artifact to him is fraught with spirits and Twilight beings.   In 854 AB, Taia's Nobodies discovered the truth of Mazekstan, that he was not the god of Protection and Spirits, but the God of Protecting Spirits. Mazekstan is not a god of man, but a god of spirits... and he is returning with a fury.
