The Natural World in Sartova | World Anvil

The Natural World

It is said that the world began barren and lifeless. Evandyr being simply warm sands and earthen shores, the only source of sustenance being the fish of the infinite oceans, which is what led the Jerians to become such great sailors.   This all changed, however, when the elves came. By oral tradition, it was said that the Spirit of all of Sartova itself brought new life from the skies in order to greater breathe life into this lifeless Story, and give it the fluidity of ideas that has now led to a greatly populated world with millions of different forms of life, forms of mind, and forms of belief.   This tale of the beginning of the elves becomes larger than life when it states that elves would dissolve back into nature when they died, transforming somehow into rivers, trees, animals, or other facets of the Natural World. If this was the case, the tale does not state how they lost this ability, and now collapse as cold corpses like the rest of us.
The Natural World is centered around the Spirits of Twilight, who in turn feed and command all other physical facets of life. A Spirit of a forest has a Will which shapes the movements of every single thing within it's boundaries and even every thought of the forest. A Spirit of a mountain will allow or prohibit climbers from ascending it's slopes, using avalanches or feral beasts in equal measure. These Spirits create an intricate web unseen throughout the world, simultaneously being created by and controlling all life.   Think of this, next you walk into a forest. As you see it, it is looking back upon you.   This notion is quite alien to those of us within the city of Golryon, as Arcanoscience has replaced our full dependence on natural ways of living. Construction can be done through arcane Fabrication, agriculture can be sustained through the gift of Life. Nonetheless, these Spirits extend to all corners of the world. Golryon, even, has a Spirit which is constituted of the psychic and emotional energies surrounding it, and there are groups who aim to feed this Spirit, in order to help the city prosper and grow.   The Natural World does not define it's borders at the perimeters of that which is physical, nor does it exist solely within the energy-comprised and spectral domain of Twilight. It is the bridge between the body and mind, Spirits and Beasts, even the men of today, and those of the previous era, who subconsciously created Spirits which linger still.   And what would the Spirit of Erinion have to say, I wonder?   IN AETERNUM. AD INFINITUM.
