Fahren

The lands of Fahren are filled with dangers that the people of Giellos are terrified of. The greatest threat that comes from Fahren is the unknown. This comes in the form of three locations.
  • Aliden Forest is located at the southern end of Fahren, and it is full of strange creatures, specifically those that appear to be part animal. These include Tabaxi, lizardfolk, Yuan-ti, Tortles and Kenku. Creatures of these races appear from time to time, and they are not generally trusted by Giellans, even if they often mean no harm. Giellans are more scared of other monsters said to be hiding in these woods, including rumors of the burial grounds of the ancient Empyreans.
  • The Shroud is a horrifying, deadly landscape on the west end of Fahren. Few dare to venture there and fewer come back alive. Other than some rogue Warforged, very few people can survive the toxic atmosphere, barren land and mutated monsters of The Shroud. Citizens of Anjeta are typically the only ones who travel there from Giellos, and then only to fend off threats before returning home. People who do spend longer periods of time there and return can come back with incredible treasures, but may also become Shrouded.
  • Ziongate  houses the most evil of all living things. No known Giellans have ever been there, although some Fahronese are rumored to have survived the kingdom of deadly Humans and Tieflings. The small nation to the east of Fahren could be up to anything: planning an invasion, summoning demons, or worse. However, without any indication of Ziongate's power, nobody wants to go in first.
It is difficult to say whether the civilized countries of Fahren are keeping evil at bay, watching its power grow, or actively helping it, but there are three countries there that Giellans are much more accepting of, even if not all of them trust the outsiders.
  • Brandros is the nation of the Gnomes and Halflings at the northernmost tip of Fahren. There are some settlements of Brandros that are above ground, but most of it has been dug into the ground. Larger creatures have a difficult time navigating the gnome- and halfling-sized tunnels that make up the web beneath Brandros, so much of there settlement is a mystery to Giellans. They are, however, the only part of Sarnil to have not participated in any wars, so they seem to pose little (no pun intended) threat, if any. Their prime minister, Durndool Ebeedo, has shown no signs of changing that.
  • Voxan is a vast country that covers most of western Fahren. The country was founded by a devout follower of The Church of Toxilken, and up to this day, all of the residents of the nation are raised under the same teachings. The line of command has descended under one Aasimar family, although people of all races that ascribe to the Church's teachings are born there or travel there upon their conversion. The actual Aasimar population is small, but High Priest Alpas, Son of Harmet commands respect from the whole country for his incredible wisdom and connection to Toxilken. Historically, members of The Church of Toxilken have not been kind to outsiders, but in recent generations, Voxan has changed tactics from seclusion and occasional violence to alliances, trade, and missionary trips. Giellos has grown more trusting of the nation because of this, as well as the constant fight against anything that comes out of Ziongate.
  • Xor is a nation almost exclusively peopled by Changelings. Changelings are rarely seen in their natural form because they look too much like humans, so they take a smattering of different forms. Their leader, Mauka Caed, has attempted to allay the fears about changelings in Giellos, but they have been a horror story for too long in Giellos. Some people are afraid that an invasion from Xor could start at any time, but it is generally accepted that their sparse population over the vast nation could not pose much of a threat. Giellans that want to leave their homes, for a multitude of reasons, will sometimes try to blend in with the people of Xor, operating under the guise of having a "favorite form" to take.
Fahren is, currently, at peace with itself. There are small battles between wandering tribes and fights with monster, but the activity has been surprisingly calm. It is impossible to tell if this calm will precede a storm or not, but the temporary reprieve from danger has allowed the nations of Fahren to finally prosper.
