Ettin

Ettins (also 'Fell-Men', 'Rime-Men', 'Ravagers', 'Howlers', 'Þursar', 'Chenoo', 'Yeren' (野人), 'Yeti' (གཡའ་དྲེད་)) are a species of giantkin found throughout the northern reaches of Elethria, Lurania, and Ivskia. The most diminutive race of giantkin, they stand head and shoulders over the tallest of elves or menfolk all the same when standing upright on their hind legs, though are more often seen in a quadrupedal stance than bipedal, crawling and bounding about on all fours.   Partial to alpine tundras, polar deserts, windswept mountains and the networks of caves that run beneath them, their appearance bears a rough resemblance to that of a human, though oddly distended and spindly with bowed legs and arms that hang below their knees whenn resting slack. Despite their penchant for colder climates, their bodies are near-hairless save for the manes around their heads and neck, and they wear little fat to protect from the elements. As with all giantkin, however, an ettin's skin is abnormally coarse and thick, which may itself shield them from the harsh temperatures of their preferred environments.   Ettins are by far the least intelligent species among the giantkin, and indeed perhaps the least intelligent among humanoid demikith as a whole; far beneath the capabilities of even the slowest troll, the fell-men have no observable societies, language, or culture of their own, and only the barest understanding of tools necessary to occasionally use their surprising strength to bludgeon or skewer prey to death with rocks of particularly shape and size rather than bare fist and claw.   Despite their widespread habitation range and the danger which they pose to surrounding life when on the hunt, sightings are incredibly rare, and it is commonly believed that ettins must spent vast portions of their lives in some form of extended sleep or hibernation. When awake, the creatures are both inconsolobly ravenous and aggressively hostile towards any living beings which cross their path, attacking animals and kithfolk alike with voracious ferocity.
