Sunglasses

Humans have exceptionally sharp night vision. Unfortunately, this makes them especially sensitive to sunlight. Humans across all cultures have invented many tools to protect their vision. Though they differ slightly in style and materials used, they are all effectively the same invention: sunglasses.

History

The first "sunglasses" had no glass at all. They were simple visors made of wood or bone, with only small slits for eye holes. They worked best in the blinding snow of northern Sanoris. Though they were cheap and effective, they limited peripheral vision and weren't always considered particularly stylish.

The first true sunglasses were made of smoky quartz. Once tinted glass became available, possible lens colors quickly branched out from the classic dark gray to browns, yellows, and reds. It was during this time that sunglasses began to be seen as a fashion accessory as well as a tool.

Now, sunglasses are a staple in any human's travel pack. Most humans have at least one or two pairs. Popular lens colors are brown and black, but more unusual colors such as red or blue are not uncommon. Most everyday sunglasses have a moderate tint, which removes glare without completely hiding the eyes from others.
