The Glass Knife

Some years ago, a young man who was born to the Fariweb Glassblowers choose not become a glassblower but instead to pursue a career of healing. His knowledge of glass led him to create instruments that allowed him to cut safely into the body, leaving clean scars that healed without infection. This technique came to be known as Glass Healing and the house in which he operates is now called the Glass Knife and attracts students from across the continent of Kisangi Continent

Purpose / Function

A place where patients who require surgery may come and doctors who operate with sharp glass instruments practice their art.

History

The Glass Knife started out a simple home in the glassblower's district of Fariweb where Makari made his home. His father was a glassblower and his mother created stained glass art, it was fully expected that he would follow in their footsteps. However, while he learnt the art of glass from them, it was not where his heart lay.

Makari loved the study of the human body.

He created instruments from glass, sharp knives that he called scalpels, little tubes with which to move around the internal organs of bodies. He started robbing graves in secret, examining the inner workings of a body. And he learnt a great deal. Then his younger sister became ill, her stomach developed a hard knot. Makari convinced her that he could help and secretly cut into her and found that a part of her internal organs had become twisted. He untwisted the offending tube and sowed the wound closed and the girl recovered.

The discovery was revolutionary, there had been those who had cut before, but their steel implements carried disease and pain. Glass could be easily washed, easily made and honed to an edge so sharp a hair could be cut by dropping it onto the scalpel.

The House of the Glass Knife was born.
