Fall of the Betrayer

Summary

Before the Divine Era and the revelation of the Council Of Seven, Sanctum was a godless and savage world. During this time the people even dared to collude with evil demons and go to war against their heavenly protectors. The whole of Sanctum descended into chaos until the gods themselve intervened into the global war to bring peace to the warmongering planet. During this time they where betrayed by one of their own and the traitor even corrupted some of the other gods resulting in a war in Heaven. After the true gods finally banished the traitor from Heaven, they sought the conflict finished but the traitor continued to corrupt the mortals on Sanctum until the gods had no other choice but to descend on to the surface of Sanctum themselve to lead their armies into a final confrontation. After chasing the cowardly traitor down, the finally defeated him in the Graveyard of Gods. To prevent this from ever happening the remaining gods established the Council of Seven.

Historical Basis

It is fairly documented that the divine Council of Seven was founded 7618 years ago. Various priests of the seven gods received new commands while priests of the gods supposedly fallen in the war lost most of their powers. Also the remnants of an ancient battleground in the Ignis Aeterna where also found over five millenia later. To cement the connection, local scholars named the place Graveyard of Gods and priest of all seven main gods declared the region forbidden and cursed territory.

Spread

The myth is told everywhere there where one can found priest of the Council of Seven and therefor it can be heard with slight variations nearly all over Sanctum. Priests tell it to children to warn them from the allure of evil while it is told to adults to show them the consequence for going against the gods.

Variations & Mutation

In the beginning the myth only told of a single battle between the traitor and the other gods but overtime several priests and bards included more and more fights and deities in their story until it became what it is today.

In Literature

There are several stories about battles, heroes and villains that where supposedly part of the war. Priests use them to give gods and heroes more glory, bards to entertain their guests and writers to earn money.
