Orc
Orcs are large, heavily built humanoids, with greyish-green skin, and normally found in the northern reaches, and in more marginal lands. Their political systems rarely rise above tribes and transient tribal confederations. Most orcish tribes are hunter/gatherers or pastorists, although some tribes in the north-west engage in piracy and raiding down the western coasts using longships of local design.
They are a hardy race, tolerant of extremes of cold and weather that would kill weaker creatures. Often characterised as stupid or backwards by humans, elves or dwarves, evidence suggests that they are just as intelligent when given access to equivalent resources. They tend to be fast-breeding, and have shorter lifespans than humans, which is also an adaptation to their environment. They appear to be related to frost giants, with whom they share many cultural affinities.
Orcs are realtive new-comers to Vanareon. They first arrived from the icy wastes of the north-western seas in frost giant longboats, and occupied the mountains and fjords of the Pirate Coast. As orcs have spread further east, they appear to have moved out from under frost giant control.
Within Vanareon, two different orcish cultures can be observed. The original culture is Ordalish, whereas those that have moved eastwards have adopted the Khandak culture of the tundra-dwelling humans.
Interbreeding between humans and orcs is relatively common.
