Session 022: Report

General Summary

Your rest was interrupted by mournful howling, as restless specters rose from the hillside, seeking to snuff out life where they could find it. Rather than notice your camp, their attention was drawn across the river, towards the sound of mirthful song.   You stalked the spirits, and were able to swiftly put them to rest, before they could cause harm to the commoners camping across the river. You decided to finish your rest, gathering what strength you could muster before delving into the tombs once again.   Alerted by the sound of shuffling feet and shifting chainmail, you warily entered a large chamber of two separate levels. Numerous sarcophagi lay at the lower level of the chamber, guarded by the restless dead, drained of life and wandering aimlessly around the room seemingly unaware of your presence. However, your tresspass was noted by the piercing blue eyes of an armored undead guardian, which rallied the withered corpses to attack you.   Combat ensued, and though you were able to defeat the armored wight, its necrotic touch drained Theo's vital force, leaving him weakened. The creature had worn ornate armor, in the style of ancient Hastum. Judging by its garb and the ornate door it had guarded, you determined the resting place of the Khosul Matriarch must be just beyond.   While scouring the room, your attention was drawn towards the massive mirror, which spanned the entire north wall of the chamber. You noticed several inconsistensies between it and the room you stood in. The mirror was clearly magical in nature. Your curiosity got the better of you, and after some pondering, you were able to make your surroundings match the magical reflection. A doorway opened at the far end of the chamber, in which you found a beautiful sword, emblazoned with the symbol of the sun.   With your curiosity sated, you entered the Matriarch's burial chamber. Despite its obvious old age and signs of decay, it was furnished in a comfortable manner, with thick rugs and furniture resembling a royal reception room. Magical fires illuminated the chamber, and in a tall armchair at the end of the room sat the mummified body of the Matriarch of Great House Khosul.   Aside from her and the flickering flames, the room was empty and still. The mummy was seated as a noblewoman should when receiving esteemed guests, which prompted Djura to greet her in a fitting fashion. At that moment, you felt a grave chill in the room...
