Session 014: Report

General Summary

With a violent gust of wind, the door in the creature's lair opened to reveal a large chamber, lit by an orange glow from somewhere below. Before you could step in, you were approached from behind by a raven, blind of sight and bearing a message from The Raven Queen. It appeared that the goddess wanted you to find her "children", the shadar-kai, who had "lost their way" from her.   The chamber beyond you was bisected by a massive crack in the mountain, radiating the hot and bright glow of the magma below. Beyond the radiant pool, you were able to see a city of dwarven make, built into the walls and floor of a large cavern.   A strange aura permeated the room, originating from a shrine dedicated to a deity none of you recognized. It appeared that the inhabitants worship a deity not common to the dwarven race. You decided it was best to leave the shrine and its precious golden idol be.   Based on the graffiti around the door frame from which you entered, you were able to identify the person responsible for the destruction in the previous level. This wizard named Glatu appeared to be a very unpopular figure.   The exit out of the chamber was trapped, but you were able to bypass it by exhausting the steam which powered it. The door yielded to your lockpicks, and you found yourselves in a dark cavern, branching in several directions.   You decided to investigate a campsite in one of the side tunnels, situated just next to a curious deep pit. Rather than pry further and risk attracting the local wildlife, you decided to press down the tunnel most traveled.   You traversed the tunnels with no incident, and found yourself in front of a ramshackle building, built of rubble and scrapwood. The sound of carousing echoed from within, and you decided to investigate. Inside this run-down tavern, you found a colorful variety of sellswords and vagabonds, both from the Underdark and the lands beyond Hastum. Interestingly, you also spotted Nine-Claws and her companions, who did their best to avoid your group.   You spent some time gathering information about a conflict brewing between dwarven clan of Ashmane, and a local group of shadar-kai. The shadow elves had stolen something of importance from the dwarves, who are now gathering mercenaries to avenge and take back their relic.   You wrote down the information you gathered and had your Tiefling friend carry the message to your employer. In the meantime, you found yourself fascinated by a brute of a gnoll, none too bright but eager for a fight. You convinced him to join forces with you for the adventures ahead.   End returned with a message from your employer, who tasked you with keeping the upstairs passage and the monster's death a secret from the dwarves. You were told to figure out whether the dwarves could be a threat to Stonewell or not.   Having made your decision to stay in the Underdark and investigate the conflict, you decided to make the best of the evening ahead of you. You spent the next hours carousing, and after a merry musical display, a timid kobold presented Talvikki with a ring of frightening power. You eventually retired to the sleeping area upstairs, to sleep off the mushroom-wine and prepare yourselves for the task ahead of you.
