Yokai Forest
The Yokai Forest is a deciduous region of dense woods next to and sometimes surrounding Sakura Village. Home to a vast concentration of spirits, the Forest has been a source of danger and intrigue for the village and it's denizens for many years.
At it's most peaceful and tranquil state, the Forest was home to a vast range of Yokai, whose interaction with the citizens varied from the beneficial to the mischievous. However, even at it's most tranquil state, the Forest was home to a range of dangers both known and unknown. Spider Yokai were known to make their homes within the Forest. A mythical bath house where a famous general was once led to and assassinated in, was at one point located within the Forest. It's location was ever-shifting and it's current whereabouts are unknown.
Recently though, the Yokai Forest has become extremely dangerous for travelers and those living too near it's borders. No one attempts to travel through the woods, opting instead to take roads around and through only the thinnest edges of the Forest. Yokai have openly attacked explorers and heroes alike, often with devastating force. Rumors of the Swamp of Dispair, a region of the forest so infested with negative energy, that it saps the will to leave and eventually live from any souls daring enough to brave it.
