Morgan Annath

Morgan Annath

A drop-out of Lunaria’s finest university of magic, Morgan Annath finds themself in the merchant’s life. As a failed sorcerer, Morgan’s spells backfire in most branches of magic. The only school of magic Morgan finds themselves as a master in is the school of Alteration, a magic they exploit endlessly to the point of forgetting their actual sex and race.   Morgan is no typical merchant, which is why they’re not in typical places. They are always in search of the most exotic items to find in the hardest to reach places in Sagrea. Sometimes these items are already in the possession of the various denizens of the world, so Morgan is eager buy items as a pawn shop. If buying or finding these items doesn’t work, manipulation and theft comes in. One way or another, they will have what they want.   Morgan is arguably the greediest person that has ever graced Sagrea, surpassing even Sunstone politicians. They seem to be obsessed with earning lunes, but can’t really find a way to spend it. Morgan’s excellence as a merchant has given them a cockiness that sometimes drives away business partners. This has left Morgan lonely across their various mercantile campaigns. This doesn’t seem to bother Morgan though, as lunes always fill the void.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Different variations of sapphire jewelry.

Special abilities

Thanks to their talent in Alteration, Morgan’s race and gender changes as often as they change locations. The original race and gender of Morgan is unknown, even to themself. One day he’s a male dark elf selling elixirs in the heart of Lunaria, the next day she’s a young woman bartering in the Sunstone Empire. The only constant that remains between each different Morgan is their sapphire jewelry. One Morgan might be wearing a sapphire ring, another might be wearing a sapphire necklace.   Identity shifting has numerous benefits to Morgan. Morgan can sell contraband in any city without fear thanks to this. Impersonating people such as nobles, warlords, and wives opens up a world of opportunities to Morgan. Theft and fraud has never been easier.   Identity changing spells aren’t the only spells Morgan can cast. Morgan can cast a spell to shrink all of their wares to fit inside a satchel when travelling. When it’s time to set up shop, Morgan conjures a tent and resizes all of the wares. Thanks to nigh-impenetrable wards and invisibility incantations, travelling Sagrea is a breeze for Morgan.

Failures & Embarrassments

Once attempted to disguise themselves as the Sunstone Emperor in order to arrange a "political meeting" with Cassandra Freyja in hopes of stealing her selenite necklace. Unfortunately, Morgan botched the meeting eventually and blew their cover. Cassandra then managed to place a glyph (that she ironically bought from Morgan themselves) that not only allows her to personally track Morgan down, but also impulsively draws them to sapphire jewelry. Ever since then, Morgan has occasionally acted as a royal spy for Lunaria, being personally blackmailed by Cassandra.

Mental Trauma

Due to previous business ventures, Morgan does not trust anybody as a colleague. Numerous tragic deaths and betrayals has been happened during Morgan’s career. The middle-man has been cut out for them, which is why they always travel to find wares on their own.

Morality & Philosophy

History

Cassandra first met Morgan after they tried to disguise themselves as a Sunstone Emperor to steal her crystal necklace. After one too many mistakes in trying to convince her, Cassandra found the wire in their act and punished them with a magic glyph (that she ironically purchased from Morgan hours earlier), allowing her to track them regardless of where they are. With all of their secrets, crimes, and even location at her fingertips, Morgan is forced to work with Cassandra as an informant or spy for anything she requests.

Relationship Reasoning

Although they will never admit it, or even acknowledge it to themselves, Morgan has a sense of duty to the crown. Despite the fact their actual connection to Lunaria is faint at best, they refuse to retaliate against Cassandra's blackmail anyway.   Deep down, Morgan feels useless in the grand scheme of the world. Coin can only bring so much satisfaction, after all. While their mission seems greedy, they just want to be useful to everyone somehow. Cassandra needs a versatile sense of utility, and that grants Morgan the opportunity to do so.

Shared Secrets

Cassandra holds the records of every crime and possible identity Morgan has used, allowing her to blackmail them into helping with whatever she requires.

Wealth & Financial state

Morgan's habits of trying to earn as many lunes as possible has made them absurdly wealthy.
Show spoiler
After the atlantean zealots attempt to invade Frigus again, the Lunarian treasury goes down the drain. Cassandra then demands Morgan to share some of their wealth with the kingdom. At first, Morgan obviously objects, but accepts the terms after they remember that even more lunes would be lost if everybody knew Morgan's secrets. Morgan's wealth hasn't even taken a dent after this impasse. It was just greed that was holding them back.
