Smoothrest

Smoothrest is small independent city-state on the southeast coast of Huiji. Smoothrest is best known for its use of magic. Some of the finest mages and magic users come from Smoothrest, and the city is guarded by the Sentinels, magical guardians created by the Magi of Smoothrest.
The city allows visitors and traders, but there is no institutionalized education in the magical arts. Instead mages may come apply to live in Smoothrest, and long-standing families are expected to arrange for the training and education of their children.

Demographics

Smoothrest is almost entirely magic users of one variety or another. New families or inhabitants are required to apply to live on Smoothrest, and must show magical aptitude. Those born in landed families not capable of magic are either exiled or join the manual work force of farmers and miners that keep the town running. Race wise Smoothrest does not discriminate .

Government

Smoothrest is led by the Council of 8, with each Council Member representing each School of Magic. Every so often the Council elects an Arch-Mage, who leads the entire Council in an executive manner.

Defences

Smoothrest is protected by The Sentinels, magically created autonomous guardians who enforce the laws of the land and protect its citizens. As Smoothrest has never been involved in a war there has never been a need for anything more than the Sentinels. Though with almost every person in the town being a practicing mage, the defense of the town would be rather simple.

Industry & Trade

Smoothrest's ports are open to traders looking to ply their wares, and Smoothrest citizens export scrolls, enchanted armor, and other magical curiosities.
