Imps are a type of Devil commonly found in The Nine Hells and uncommonly found in The Material Plane.

Basic Information

Anatomy & Morphology

Imps are humanoid in shape, with bodily proportions similar to that of a Goblin, though much smaller. They will always grow two or four wings, with Asmodean Imps gaining the ability to grow four wings and both Zarian Imps and unaligned imps growing only two. Their hands and feet have four and five fingers and toes respectively, ending in sharp claws. They have a thin, flexible tail that ends in a poisonous stinger, which they use to lash out and stab at an opponent. They also have two small horns that curl back, though these horns serve little purpose.

Genetics and Reproduction

As per most devils, imps cannot reproduce, instead being born of cruel spirits that are sent to the Nine Hells as Lemures, followed by being chosen and transformed by a Devil Lord.

Growth Rate & Stages

Imps do not age, instead staying effectively stagnant unless a Devil Lord transforms them into a different form of devil.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Imps do not need to eat, though they are capable of doing so, and seem to enjoy alcohol, fine meals, and Ambrosia.

Like all devils, imps are capable of seeing in the dark, whether magical or otherwise.

Beauty Ideals

While imps lack the concept of beauty, the size of their horns is often looked at as a form of power, due to the fact that stronger devils can grow their horns.

Gender Ideals

Imps do not have a concept of gender, instead simply identifying themselves as imps. This is likely due to there being a lack of distinction between sexes, if there are varying sexes in the first place.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Imps are almost always able to speak Infernal and Common.

Common Etiquette Rules

Imps tend to do little more than cause inconveniences in situations that don't require secrecy. However, some imps can get bored of merely irritating those around them and may turn violent to maintain their personal entertainment.


Despite not being physically powerful in comparison to other devils, imps have earned a certain usefulness and even respect among their kin. This is due to their significant scouting skills that come from their ability to change into several small creatures. They are also one of the few devils that can create their own personal Portals to and from the Nine Hells instantly, allowing them to escape quickly with this information should they be discovered.   Some spellcasters have taken to keeping imps as familiars, though due to their intelligence imps usually will not agree to this without some sort of deal being struck between the two parties.

Physically, imps are very weak, mostly due to their size.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Imps generally have a skin tone ranging from a bright crimson to a deep black, though they can also have white or pink skin, albeit much more rarely.
