Focus Core Item in Ruten | World Anvil

Focus Core

A Focus Core is a large glass orb surrounded by several steel bands used primarily for storing and slowly releasing magic. It's often used in magical machinery as a power source, similar to how electricity would work to power normal machinery. The design was originally formed by Greznok the Great for the Rudigan Raillines, but has been altered and upgraded to be used in many magical devices as of late.

Raw materials & Components
Focus cores are almost exclusively made from glass with some form of gem held inside. The purity of both the glass and gem, along with the thinness of the glass and the type of gem enclosed inside the orb, all affect the strength of the focus core. Due to their price, focus cores are also almost always contained in some form of shock absorbing contraption, usually made out of a combination of metal for rigidity and a shock absorber to stop the glass from shattering.
Tools
Due to the glass requiring sealing for the focus core to work and due to the gem needing to be held in the center of the orb by the glass, focus cores are usually made by magic as opposed to traditionally, being often sculpted by hand using a shaping spell. The external shock mechanism however is usually made traditionally, as these are often shaped to the specific needs of a machine or contraption.
