Session 14: To the Fourth Gate Report

General Summary

October 28th, 1916 P.M.E, Rhun Karaz, The Runeweald

The party awakens in the cavern where they found the Tomb of Glumlin the Flusher. After Polis cooks a fine meal, they set out again toward Girt Fut. A couple of hours into their journey through the low mountain ranges of the Rhun Karaz they stumble upon a shear rock wall and a switchback. Ezekiel notices a frozen (but fresh) trail of blood that lies just under a thin layer of snow. The blood trail continues along the switchback. With this knowledge, the party draws their weapons and progresses carefully up the trail. Upon reaching the top of the mountain, Ezekiel in the rear guard notices a creature that bolts from left to right. He draws his bow and ready an arrow, but shortly after seeing the creature, many howls are heard echoing throughout the mountain range. A wolf dashes toward Ezekiel and lunges at him before he can loose his arrow. An epic battle ensues and in a disastrous mishap, Ezekiel decapitates his companion Jordis Drianska. Not long after the wolves are either slain or flee, resulting in the expedition's pyrrhic victory.   After seeing the death of his close companion Mores enters his miniature laboratory and goes ape shit. Ezekiel, overwhelmed with guilt digs a grave for Jordis directly into the stone of the mountain. He then throws his magical great-axe off the mountain in a fit of rage. Llobh takes this moment to use his soul lantern on the wolves and his dead companion netting him a hearty yield from the former and a single crimson denar for the latter.   Eventually, the party continues on their path to Girt Fut and arrives in good time. They make camp at the entrance of the tunnel. Ezekiel goes out on his own to hunt and manages to shoot a hare which is cooked for dinner. Mores tells Ezekiel that the quest must be fulfilled, but he will avenge his friend.

October 29th, 1916 P.M.E, Girt Fut, The Runeweald

After their rest, the party delves into Girt Fut. After a couple of hundred feet, they find that the tunnel has been caved in. At the base of the rubble lies a painting of a humanoid grandfather clock. They touch the painting and are transported into a monochrome city that is dominated by an oppressive clock tower. Everyone in the city obsessively stares at their pocket watches and are constantly on the move, heeding no attention to the party.   The party goes into a store called 'The Price of Punctuality' where they meet the humanoid clock figure from the painting. He introduces himself as Rom'Gol'Ghok. The party proceeds to spend a good amount of their crimson denars to get a couple of time-related magic items as well as a crude map of the Rhun Karaz and an ancient dwarven lexicon that they use to translate the map.

October 30th, 1916 P.M.E, The Hissing Wood, The Runeweald

After the banter and shopping concludes, Rom'Gol'Ghok declares he is out of time and the party finds themselves on the other side of the mountain range. A black forest surrounded by tall mountains stands before them.
