Meritte

An uncommon porous stone, dark grey with translucent striations. Found rarely on the surface in small amounts, largely mined from the depths of Alyeria.  Miners find Merrite in two forms, inert and charged with Ebb.  The inert stones striations appear quartz like with a milk white color.  These deposits can be easily missed by all but most experienced diggers.  In the charged state, the stones crystal sections glow with a soft red light.  Dwarves and other races with true darkvision still perceive this simply as a grey/white illumination while underground in poor or no light.
Sought after for its innate ability to absorb, store, and transmit elemental energy or Ebb. The base properties of this stone allow it to be carved, shaped, and forged into many forms. Powerful high temperature forges are required to smelt the ore.  Only the most skilled smiths can shape the stone into other forms or infuse it into metals for weaponry.  It took centuries for the technique to be developed.  Merrite infusion happens naturally in hides and wood, other common construction materials, metals are a different story.
Used in many fantastic creations during the Attuned Era, its value unrecognized until the Collapse. Over the past few decades, as Alyerians rebuild and recognize the diminished presence of the Ebb, Meritte's storage ability is highly prized. Small amounts can carry great value depending on the organization or community it is traded to.
