Vontarbil

Structure

The hill dwarves of Vontarbil are a friendly, welcoming society. Their hierarchy is loose and democratic, with the kingdom broken into various districts that govern themselves but ultimately report to the capital.

Culture

At first glance, many of Vontarbil's areas resemble the shire. A bunch of small people living a calm, agrarian lifestyle. There are a few big cities, such as the capital Dengoral, the half buried city. And to a certain extent, those assumptions are correct. Many of the rural areas are peaceful lands filled with the smells of the woods and the calls of livestock. Yet even as peaceful as they are, they are still dwarves. Their militias are as fearsome as any army, and even lowly farmers can beat back a goblin raid. Not to mention their mastery of beasts. The dwarves of Vontarbil have among them some of the greatest beastmasters on Gildar. Many use these to train work beasts or herd livestock. Some have been known to train exotic beasts such as griffins or owlbears though.

Public Agenda

Vontarbil welcomes Alentheas as a great trading partner. They have a good deal supplying food for the military. An army can't march on an empty stomach after all. This has a second effect that Vontarbil was hoping for: their own trade network grows. As Alentheas spreads their influence, word of Vontarbil's delicious crops spread too. There's a whole new market in Noburu, and Alentheas is holding the door open for them.

Assets

Vontarbil's greatest strength is in its fields. They produce vast amounts of quality food, and are a major exporter of grain, meat, fruit and more. Being dwarves, the kingdom has a good share of master craftsman as well, though many craft pitchforks and plows instead of swords and axes. Their beastmasters can be potent as well. In addition to training their beasts for battle, they themselves can be political tools. Tamed beasts are common, so being denied access to beast trainers can be bad.
