Everdelve is a bit of an odd kingdom. Many dwarven cities are entirely dwarfs, maybe a few gnomes or humans or such scattered about. Everdelve has a second main race: kobolds. The city is home to an old copper dragon, who is in a cooperative relationship with the dwarves. They have many shared interests: both love treasure, both love the stone, both live ages and so have future oriented lives. The kobolds serving the copper also share these interests, and their almost hive minded worldview meshes well with dwarven industry. Together, these two races have become great together, ruling most of the mountains from below.
Dwarf & Kobold Relations
Kobolds and dwarves are not so different. Both are industrious miners with a love of treasure and a height disadvantage. Things were choppy at first (both figuratively and sometimes literally), but with
King Forgescale and
Queen Stonecrush working together, the citizens began to thrive.
External Relations
Everdelve gets most of its wealth through trade. Dwarven metalwork is highly valued, and kobold mechanisms only have a slight chance to fail spectacularly, which doesn't outweigh their usefulness. These combined skills can bring in a lot of gold, so Everdelve tries to keep on good terms with as many kingdoms as they can. At least good enough to keep trade flowing.
The kobolds have a rivalry with gnomes, that has gone back since before both races could remember. Picture Warcraft Goblins and Gnomes, they love one upping each other. Most meeting between them devolve into debates about different styles of engineering.
