The Khronid Empire (Crone-id)

Structure

Complete ruling power in the Khronid Empire is given to the Emperor, who is responsible for all of the lands, people, and asserts within their territory. The Emperor is appointed through birth rite, and every direct heir (siblings, children) of the previous Emperor is elligible for contention. Competition between heirs can often lead to large civil wars and infighting, however, the most suited heir always come on top.

The Emperor has a small, personal council of advisors, and usually is comprised of loyal family members, maritial relations, and long-standing friendships.

Culture

Khronid culture can be split into two sections. Firstly, the inspiration of the Emperor. Within many levels of the uper eschelon, and those wanting to gain power and influence in the empire, cultural values, dress, and mannerisms are contingent solely on the imperial family. They are the trendsetters, and anyone wanting to make a good impression in society should follow with these set norms.

Secondly, however, many of the imperial population do not have access to these levels of society, and thus have their own cultures. This is location specific, and many of the Khronid Empire's many cities and towns are individualistic in character. Identifying factors can be seen through shared languages, climate, and trade, howver the similarities largely end here.

History

The Khronid Empire has a long imperial history, which is a source of much pride for its people. Khronid calenders begin when the original nine founders of the Khronid lands - Kanaan, Ramzi, Fikri, Ghaali, Aatif, Saood, Daamir, Zuhair, and Saif - first landed in their new homelands. Here they settled and began to build what would become the greatest Empire in the Western continent, starting with the capital city, Saif, named in mourning for his untimely death.

The empire experiences mass expansion in the 1st century, following the birth of its first emperor, Khronid, in 43 FK. Khronid, the great builder, conquered many of the nearby lands, set up many of the lasting institutions, and brought the empire into a new era of unparalleled wealth and prosperity.

Since Khronid, the Empire has had many great leaders, and furthered the original imperial goal of expansion and prosperity.

Demography and Population

The Khronid Empire has a large, diverse population spread across its lands. Here are some of the main towns and cities within its territories:

Saif - The imperial capital. Saif is a large city, filled with extravegant sandstone buildings that tower over the narrow streets. Gold and glamour is home in the empire's prize jewel, which is home to the imperial palace estates.

Al Adirah - a lawless town of privateers, who opperate due to the large economic boons it provides to the imperial estates. It is not recommended for tourists to travel here.

Qurid - a desert city on the edge of Sandwyrm Run. Qurid is particularly known for its poor living conditions and despotic local authorities.

Lebaj - a large town of great intrigue for many visitors of the Khronid Empire. Lebaj lies within a vast canyon, and is built along the sides of the canyon walls. It is one of the academic centres of the empire, and has large contingents of archaeologists, scholars, cartographers, and geologists living in its outpost communities.

Sandwyrm Run - a large expanse of desert land in the heart of the Khronid Empire, a landscape of sand, harsh sunlight, sparse wildlife and flora, with dusty, arid air swirling across the large, empty plains. There is an eerie lack of sound in Sandwyrm Run, with the sparcest of wind rustles barely percepible to the ear. Danger waits anyone who travels into the desert expanse, which is home to the empire's largest pests - the sandwyms. Aptly named for its deadly inhabitants, these wyrms have been migrating in increasingly large reaches over the years, and are becoming a problem that the empire must soon deal with.

Religion

The official state religion is the Cult of Ancestors, which venerates the dead, and in particular the past emperors. Days of celebration are held for many of the significant ancestors, with Khronid's Day lasting over a week in celebrations. Sacrifices, feasts, and periods of mourning are all included in these days in order to honour the dead, and ask them for good fortune in the future.
