Fosk Settlement in Rom | World Anvil

Fosk

There's a town named Fosk far to the north of the Idran empire that sits on the frontier at the edge of what is known. This small town used to be the center of a bustling trade in the mining of singing crystals and then hushstone, but the quarries have long since dried up and the empire's attention has moved onwards.

Industry & Trade

Currently, Fosk serves as a stopping over point for the truckers that bring goods and workers to the newer quarries of singing crystals to the west and hushstone to the east. This is enough trade to keep the locals fed and busy. It also brings them news of the wider workings of the Idran empire, which keeps the cold nights from getting too lonely.

Assets

There is one particularly eccentric Academy-trained musician who lives with his wife near the inlet to Fosk. He runs a recharging station where he uses his baritone to charge up the engines of the trucks that pass through. His wife can tinker with their singing crystals if needed so that they're ready to be re-primed for the long journey ahead to Quring or Qoeg.

Architecture

The architecture on the main street was clearly put up quickly and meant to be showy. There are extra columns and statues all over the place. Most of these have grown a thick layer of grime as the years passed by, but there are a couple storefronts that are clearly still in use. The general store never had the extra accouterments of nearby buildings as it was meant for a simple task, which makes it easier for the current proprietor to keep things neat. There's also an honest to goodness saloon that seems to keep a good trade going underneath the bustling local inn.

Geography

The area has quite a few rolling hills with some valleys full of trees and other greenery. The old quarries are up the road a ways, and fills up when there's a good rain or too much snow.
