Professor Quintorius Kand

Description
Often dressed in a leather frock coat, with a rucksack and a utility belt, Professor Kand (also known as Professor Q or Professor Quint) looks like he is ready to go dungeon delving at any moment. He has a habit of holding on to the artifacts he has found on his expeditions, which explain the explosions that can be heard from his office. Professor Kand got his job at Strixhaven due to his fame from discovering a lost Loxodon city underwater, back when he was a young, fit Loxodon. He teaches the Arcane Artifacts: History & Preservation class, where students are tasked with either finding or creating their own arcane artifact. He prefers his students write longer papers claiming "the more pages, the more likely I am to read it." He’s good friends with Professor Mirsha Gahlván whose office is next door to his own. He has a habit of taking long walks to give Mirsha his privacy.Year 1 Involvement
Professor Kand introduced himself with a bang. His office exploded as Mistake was looking for Professor Gahlván. The explosion was due to yet another artifact he wasn’t supposed to have in his office, and he bribed Mistake with a favor, to be collected in the future, in exchange for her silence on the matter. After another explosion in his office, he was put on probation. A clockwork owl with keen hearing followed him everywhere he went. Though the probation was ostensibly regarding his unsafe handling of artifacts, it was likely related to the work he and Professor Gahlván did to investigate the Oriq. Professor Gahlván was also put on probation soon after. Professor Kand joined Professor Gahlván in asking the F Squad to infiltrate Captain Dapplewing's manor and retrieve a book from her attic they believed contained the missing Dean Imbraham. At the time, he was convinced the Captain was the source of the balm-infected living furniture that had been attacking students. He thought she was trying to raise an army to take over Arcavios. Mistake pointed out several flaws in this argument. When the Captain wanted to expel all five members of the Squad for their theft, Professors Kand and Gahlván took full responsibility for the event to protect them. The F Squad escaped immediate consequences, but the two professors remained on probation. Rosie found this unacceptable. The protests she organized grew to a size the Captain couldn’t ignore, and the professors were freed of their owl tagalongs soon after. Like Professor Gahlván, Professor Kand chose to go into hiding upon hearing that the Oriq was out to kill him.
