A Pale Horse
General Summary
The party embarks on their journey, starting in an Imperial Canton in Eastern Cantha, on the planet Orpheus. There they are swiftly processed by the Imperial Registry, some are Shackled while others have already recieved theirs, the entire party are Indents - and have been instructed to report to the Imperial Labor Office in Brimstone, a town in Western Cantha. Herded like cattle, hundreds of Indents are processed and then ushered into a Train car, part of the Cantha Rail line. The train soon departs, due west - the party has some time to get to know eachother, as they are confined to their train car until they arrive. Aboard their train car with them are a goblin, a thuggish looking human man in the corner, and a human couple expecting a child. After some conversation, the human couple seem to naively believe that they will have a better future as part of the pioneer program, an imperial propaganda campaign to get more indents to willingly volunteer to move to and settle the frontier colonies. Little do they know, they're being transported to one of the most dangerous regions of Orpheus. As more time passes, the thuggish man on the train sees something with a spy glass. Though unwilling at first to share information or hand over his spyglass, Gupogis manages to charm the man with his silver tongue, and trades him a book for the spyglass despite the man being illiterate.
What they see out the train window appears as a convoy of many caravans all attached to one another, and being pulled by packs of something across the desert in the far distance. What they have observed are the Menasari Nomads, a necromantic tribe who are constantly moving and hunting along the border to the Wildlands. Shortly after the train stops at Quarry Junction, a small mining camp that also serves as a train station, it is just on the southern outskirts of Brimstone. Most of the miners there seem to have taken up residence in the local saloon to drown their sorrows, allowing the party to investigate their camp and collect some materials unnoticed. When their work is concluded, they venture north into Southern Brimstone - bound for the Imperial Labor Office, to see what cruel fate the Empire has in store for them.
