Koda

The current tallest building still standing in MapleHood has the letters K O D A on the tower’s top. It is known as the Koda. It features 19 stories, and can be seen from anywhere in the area. It’s surrounded by a few shorter buildings that act as guard towers. The building itself acts as a hub for the current (and largest) gang in power. Only those in power, hold status, or are personally invited by the gang itself are allowed entry into the building.   The basement of the Koda is where the products are kept. It is heavily guarded and locked away with multiple gang members representing each of the different factions taking shifts. The first two floors have bars, providing entertainment for those interested. The following floors are for use by the different factions.   The next group of floors contain various lab rooms, not to be confused with the actual production facilities, for further drug development and research. Only the most trusted and talented scientists in Maplehood work here. Most of them have such an incredible passion for their research, that they end up spending nights in the tower, so sleeping quarters have been arranged on the far ends of the lab rooms, along with modest kitchens.   The building’s peak features a spire that hosts a large collection of falcon nests. The falcons are being used by the gang as a means of communication between the individual factions, as well as an alert system. If unexpected guests enter gang territory, the falcons will let out a screech and on command, dive bomb the intruders. These falcons are incredibly loyal to their masters once paired, and have an unbreakable bond. They’ve adapted to the purple smog and generally use it to their advantage, ripping gas masks off while inflicting serious talon wounds onto their victims. If you have control of the Koda, you have control of the next generation of falcons. If you have control of the falcons, you have control of the skies.   Floor sixteen, just below the peak, is where the gang leader resides along with all of their rumored partners for that week. The leader has falcons of their own that sit perched near the entrance of the floor, glaring down anyone that enters.

History

The gang of power was switching every couple years. Then, the export of drugs expanded. More and more gangs wanted in on the action, resulting in power struggles almost every other month down to every other week. Things became bad. But then, one gang in particular changed it all.   They started collaborating with other gangs - working together. Growing in numbers as more smaller gangs began to join. Their numbers alone made it possible to completely take over the Koda as their own. Since then, the power struggle has became less frequent. Not necessarily every couple years as it once was, but no longer every couple weeks. Slowly, the Koda has helped Maplehood reach a stabilization of its own.
