Festival of Heavenly Flame

The Festival of Heavenly Flame is a dazzling natural phenomenon that is of sacred significance to the a'drekh. It manifests as rippling sheets of red, green, blue, and purple light high in the sky over the northern reaches of the Pāll-tanír and Noltêrrë.   Though these lights occur year-round, and vary unpredictably in terms of their intensity, they are at their brightest and most awe-inspiring around the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. These are the holiest of days to the a'drekh, a time when the world of the living and the afterlife are closest. It is a time for celebration and remembrance, with most settlements conducting ritual sacrifices to the spirits of long-gone ancestors as a way to honor their memory and attract their favor.   This time is also a great opportunity for the more entrepreneurial a'drekh. Interest in the heavenly lights naturally spikes during the equinoxes, and while outsiders are often unwelcome in the more solemn observations, there are plenty of celebrations to be had where food and drink flow freely. Some a'drekh communities, especially along the northern coast of the Pāll-tanír, supplement their income with revenue from the visitors, which has proven to be a welcome boon, improving the economic situation of the region.   While many would-be seekers of the heavenly lights are satisfied with breaking bread and celebrating the time with an a'drekh family along the northern coast of the Pāll-tanír, there is one place where the experience is more awe-inspiring than anywhere else: the small settlement of Dallikton on the southernmost tip of Noltêrrë. For those who can afford and have the courage to brave the journey to the remote outpost, the sight is truly breathtaking.   Those that have been fortunate enough to witness the Festival of Heavenly Flame from Dallikton describe the experience as life-changing. Year after year, the settlement sees more and more visitors during the equinoxes as word spreads about the incredible sight. Though this has historically strained the settlement's already-thin supplies, deals struck during recent years have helped mitigate the negative impact, allowing the people of Dallikton to enjoy the extra revenue and the growing interest in their little town.
