The Clans of Moak (Mow-ak)

The clans are scattered about The Blasted Lands, making use of the mesas that dot the place for both homes and protection. While almost universally kobolds, outsiders are occasionally are offered membership into individual clans through great deeds honestly done. The kobolds themselves are usually a light brown in colour, with subtle variations of shading, and favour olive coloured eyes. What truly separates them from their cousins in other lands is small and often overlooked; a fifth toe upon the foot compared to the far more common four toes. Wings are rare, but cause for celebration. Even the most destitute of kobolds scrounges for wings so that they might soar from the tops of mesas and ride the thermal lifts of their lands.
The clans of Moak are often poorly equipped and poorly clothed. Poverty is a way of life for the clans, capital they do acquire often evaporating like the rare rains in trades for food and religious artifacts. That universal poverty has not translated into being a conquered people as one would expect though. The kobolds are wily and tenacious fighters, clearly blessed by Moak and unwilling to lay down and die.
Warlords, who are also priests of Moak, lead each clan with an iron fist and hold the majority of the pitiful wealth with which they fund the acquisition of weapons and digging tools to carve out the mesas and the ground beneath. A single Ur-lord leads all of the clans. Who can and cannot lead the clans is determined by bloodline. The faith of Moak demands absolute obedience to leaders, lest a clan be wiped out.

Shared customary codes and values

While individual clans can value almost anything, there is a common thread on the supremacy of honourable conduct and maintaining integrity. Their word is their bond. To break an oath sworn on Moak is a sin greater than any other.
