The Rift
The rightful namesake of the world, The Rift is a tear in the Material Plane that leads to the Astral Plane.
History
Soon after the fall of humanity's great empire, humans tried in desperation to reconnect the Astral Causeways. They failed catastrophically, instead of a portal to a safe walk way to other worlds, they created a tear that pulsed with dangerous energy.
It was only after a few hundred years later that the World Walker Society showed up with an outpost to contain the growing Rift and established the place now known as The Nightlands.
