Havenal

Havenal is the large island in the middle of Lake Haven and has long been instrumental in the survival of human culture. The rugged chunk of rock features many inlets, rivulets, and dividing ridges. The tough landscape has resulted in many communities organizing themselves along drainage basins with little contact with neighbouring rivers.   The rich volcanic soil supports a wide variety of flora and fauna. This abundance of natural living resources has directed the development of human culture in the area. A lack of minerals or good quarry stone limits the available goods, with metal tools from the mainland fetching higher than average prices.   River villages on Havenal typically consist of 20-50 circular wooden huts. Huts close to the river's edge or on flood plains may be built on stilts while others further up the slopes may be built directly on the ground. Villages usually have a number of wooden docks extending in to the river for the dugout canoes common to the area. Fishing traps are also common, with fish and fowl providing the foundation for meals.
