Zidaar

Although Zalatar's reputation casts a long shadow over Revne's other excavations, Zidaar's enduring spirit and influence on Aerona and certainly the Grand Captial cannot be neglected either. Though their work is not the sort of statement pieces many of Chalon's finest flaunt, the high society of the city would have no place to host their galas or festivals without the generations of meticulous masons and miners who call the town of Zidaar home. One must look no further than the resplendent architectural achievements of Chalon to see the steadfast craftsmanship and immeasurable work ethic of the Zidarian clans.

Demographics

An egalitarian society welcoming to any who value hard work and strong drink, Zidaar's largest majority is a handful of dwarven clans, including remnants of Clan Honorforge who have since taken on derivative names in the wake of Zuestabar's destruction. The town is also home to a fair population of human cand gnomish citizens as well.

Government

Zidaar is overseen by the Guildmaster's Council, which is comprised of those who speak on behalf of the three largest industries within the city, the miners, masons, and mercenaries. Most of the Council's decisions focus on economic arrangements and treaties with Chalon and the individual aristocratic houses.

Defences

The Garrison, a powerful guild of mercenaries which work to protect not only the mines and the town but also all going and coming shipments and deliveries, serves as the primary defenses for the town. While their day to day tasks are often absent of much danger, several incursions of foul creatures throughout recent years ensure the necessity and value of these trained guards.

Infrastructure

While the use of carts and rails remains commonplace beneath the mountains of most mining operations in Revne, Zidaar's rails extend throughout much of the town proper as well, allowing for efficient travel and communication amongst the various pockets of the city.

Guilds and Factions

The Garrison, The Masons, and the Miner's Guild are the three primary factions within the city, covering a majority of the workforce in their respective memberships. Each chooses a delegate to represent them on the Guildmaster's Council which keeps the city operating in a mutually beneficial and orderly fashion.

Architecture

While many of the older structures show the enduring value of function over form, Zidaar offers a rich diversity of architectural styles depending on which of the small neighborhoods one visits and the particular mason working on any given project. Styles and new techniques are often tested in Zidaar first, so a knowing eye can spot the prototypical styles which would go on to become commonplace in other cities as well as examine experiments which never made it beyond the community's walls.

Geography

Located on the eastern ridge of the Verdelen Mountains, Zidaar is divided into northern and southern portions of the city by a small river which feeds the everspinning waterwheels providing the necessary power to much of the town's operations. Only a day's travel north of Chalon, Zidaar is almost entirely supported and funded by the resources provided to the Grand Capital.

Natural Resources

Alongside the typical stones mined for necessary infrastructure and construction, Zidaar also exports marble into the Seaview and Gardenview districts of Chalon.
