Sleeping Eye Knife Item in Reverie | World Anvil

Sleeping Eye Knife

The Sleeping Eye Knife, also known as the Dreampiercer, is a magical dagger made from copper and bronze. Its hilt is decorated with the ornate carvings of the Somni people. In its center, connecting the hilt and the blade is a large purple gemstone, it is partially covered in copper plating to mimic the look of a half-lidded eye. Currently located in Lunar Library of the Citadel of Clouds, it is a one-of-a-kind object of mostly unknown origin. Due to the carvings on its hilt, it is believed to have been made by the Somni people some time before or during the age of myth. This knife is incredibly important to both fey and human history, appearing in numerous historical events and legends throughout Reverie. How it has appeared in so many different events across space and time is on the many mysteries surrounding this knife.

Magic

The knife allows the user to read the minds of people. If its blade were to pierce a person, they would remain unharmed and the blade with pass through their skin without causing any damage. The wielder of the blade can then read the mind and memories of the person as long as the knife remains in contact. The limit of the object's power is unknown, though older memories are harder to access than newer ones, and the clarity of the memory is dependent on how well the person remembers said memory. Ther have been cases, however, of the knife being able to access thoughts and memories previously unknown to the target.   When the Sleeping-Eyed Knife's eye is fully open, it is able to pierce the veil separating the Dreamscape and Reverie, creating portals that allow a person to physically enter or leave the dreamscape. This portal is only open for a few seconds, but the knife could be used to elongate its lifespan.

"Quite a specimen, yes? We didn't know which section it should have been placed in, considering the many historical events it was tied to. Did it belong in the Somni section, or with other artifacts from the Mythorogea, or should it have been placed among the artifacts integral to the history of this City? In the end we decided to put it in its own section up here..." - Archivist of the Lunar Libraries

Haha thank you, I didn't know how to classify it, so I just made the librarians unsure of how to classify it too.
