Mithril

Mithril one of the most commonly mined materials in Fusa, second only to silver, has a purple hue when raw. In its manufacturing process does it lose the purple hue and takes on a blueish silver coloration.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Found by its veins of purple hued stone, this material when mined comes in chunks of purple rock. After it's been processed most of the purple has been pretty much drained from its appearance and in its place is a silvery-blue metal.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The metal is known throughout the world for its beautiful sheen, effortless durability, and light weight nature. It is very commonly found in advanced M-Tech creations for these reasons.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Armor, weapons, wealthy finery, and M-Tech.

Industrial Use

Sometimes mithril is mixed with other metals for the purposes of making a lighter but still durable alloy. This is usually a means for cutting down on the quantity of mithril needed for something by mixing it with cheaper metals that are easier to come by to give it a greater level of durability and reducing weight. Its not nearly as light or as strong as making something with just mithril, but it is something that is still done regardless.

Refinement

The mithril when its originally mined has to be put through a process not unlike iron, but the temperatures necessary has to be higher than that of iron. Once it's been processed, the excess slag and run off is removed and the pure metal is formed into ingots for further refinement and crafting. The slag and run off biproduct can be used for alchemical purposes.

Manufacturing & Products

The most common thing made from mithril is armor, enchanted items, and M-Tech. Due to its lightweight nature it is favored as armor over other materials if someone can afford the cost of making a suit of armor in mithril. The more typical usage is in enchanting and M-tech due to the durability and purity of the metal.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

The slag and run off from the metal can be used in alchemy by turning it into mithril power or take mithril shavings to create a variety of concoctions.

Environmental Impact

The necessary temperatures required to refine the ore requires such a heat and those heat sources require a lot of fuel. In Fusa chemicals are made to help the factory's furnaces to reach hotter temperatures faster and the byproduct of that is the smoke and smog from their smokestacks. This creates clouds of smoke and fumes that drive around Fusa's upper levels nearer to the surface. No one lives here, but caves and mines that may still be tapped for resources can be filled with it making it a toxic place to work. If a worker is to be there it is expected they wear some kind of rebreather or mask.

Reusability & Recycling

Mithril's purity allows it to be melted down and reforge time and time again.
