Magical Technology "M-Tech"
In Magnus, innovations are being made every day. Artificers and Mages are creating magic items from the mundane to the spectacular, from the everyday use to the esoteric use. But these go beyond your typical magic item that's infused with magic. It is technology powered by magic. Magic is the fuel source. Vehicles such as the land speeders are fueled by magic and store it like a tank of gasoline. Some technology like elemental guns recharge through its very use.
The creation of the CMAS or Cartridge Modification and Alteration System was generated on this idea. The Students of Equality thought it unfair that the "upper class" citizens of Magnus were able to get their hands on this technology when the rest of Magnus and the citizens of Fusa could use the luxuries this kind of technology could provide. This Student of Equality, or SoE for short, came up with a way to store elemental energies into cartridges where it took on a liquid form. It was these cartridges that developed much of the citizen level technology that Magnus and some of Fusa enjoy.
The storing of magical energy and the means to recharge it became a trend in Magnus and their technology revolved around it. Limb replacements powered by this provided their recipients with more than just replacement but something that could potentially pass along senses lost by their original limb. Homes could heat or cool their houses with this technology. Ships and ground vessels could be powered in a similar fashion.
The Ele-Carts and "Chaos Bikes" as they are called by the students at the colleges are vehicles that use a larger crystal that can store more power.
These M-Tech items do not replace the typical enchanted items that have proliferated the world of Resa as those still have purpose and place and are often times more powerful than M-Tech, but the versatility of M-Tech has been what has popularized the technology.
Utility
Typical uses for M-Tech tends to be used by homes and civilians to improve their quality of life. Heat or cool their homes or businesses. Animated servants to clean or help around the house. This technology even extends to vehicles which can help civilians get around a large city such as Magnus. One of the great leaps in M-Tech's progress was the creation of artificial limbs. Limbs that could pass along senses to the user to help replicate what they lost.
Now while that is the most common everyday use, but it wasn't long before these technologies were incorporated into weapons and armor for legal and illegal activities. But that is the way of most good things, if there is a way to exploit it there is. The Whisper Cartridges are a prime example of this in that it can bring the crack of a firearm to a loud whisper at best.
Manufacturing
M-Tech is manufactured and created in a variety of ways, but there is the item itself and the power core. The power core requires magical energies to be dumped into it which then it is stored and then drained as its needed, but the items are powered by it require the manufacturing. Primarily the means of etching and scribing runes, incantations, and materials into the thing being created.
One thing in its favor is that due to magics ability to be more compact, M-Tech tends to also be a little cleaner, sleeker, and overall, more "fancy" looking. This allows for artificial limbs to look more accurate to the missing limb than say something more clunky or cumbersome. It can also be created from lighter materials due to much of the limbs movement is powered by magic.
Social Impact
This originally was coveted and used by the upper class, but when the Students of Equality were able to generate a more sustainable way to put magic into the hands of those not capable, it had a major impact on society. The citizenry now could tolerate the varied climates and weather better. Travel and home life improved with new, faster ways to travel along and ways to maintain the home and food supply better.
Access & Availability
The availability of M-Tech varies depending on what you are trying to acquire. There is plenty of civilian level M-Tech such as a freezer boxes and water heating to weapons that are available to them. But more military grade versions of items such as elemental rifles and powered armors still remain out of the hands of civilians. In the city of Magnus its pretty common to find and even in Fusa, but outside of these two cities you really only find the exported goods of these items in major cities such as the elven capital of Arroyo. Towns and villages throughout the world do not have such luxuries and live much more mundanely.
Complexity
Only the magic users with the right skill set and knowledge can create them. Because even beyond just the infused crystals there is creating things such as energy lines to allow for the crystal to interact and then there is the storing of runes and lines of incantations into crystals. There is a reason it took time to make and many years to perfect.
Discovery
The original creation of M-Tech was founded in Magnus where the innovation was developing, but it really didn't take off until some students really revolutionized the field with their Cartridge Modification and Alteration System to allow for magic to be stored and released in a variety of ways. Once that happened new ways to store and work with magic became really popular.
