2024/12/27: Dungeon Speedrun 4 Report
General Summary
Lillith, Ba'alzamon, Eldrin, Knight, Kelsey
Only one treasure room remains on the 13th floor. According to intelligence, it should be the room with the banshees and the gem the party is looking for.
Kelsey, who had been with the party early in the adventure, wandered back in, only slightly inebriated. Malakai apparently wandered back out at around the same time.
The party moseyed past the black tornado thing in the difference. Navigating to the final room proved far more difficult than it should have been; passages seemed to move. Gruumsh may have been actively messing with the party.
After a bit, Zehedra noticed something wrong with one of the walls in a passage. There was, apparently, an invisible hole in the wall. Kelsey went out through it. There was air outside, and a couple of paths and bridges through the void. The wall was solid from that side, unfortunately.
(Ba'alzamon cast Commune with Spirits. He got a shadowy spirit mirror. He has never cast the spell for its intended purpose, and it has never worked as intended, usually to hilarious effect. This time was no exception. The reflection formed a weird inverse Ba'alzamon that said they were close to being freed. The dungeon was almost destabilized enough.)
After some discussion and divination, the party chose to go outside and try to find an unconventional path to the target room. The spirit said to go outside, then turn right, then turn right again, and they should be outside the wall behind which the crystal is stored. The group would need to break the wall to get to it.
The spirit said the locals would probably know him as "the Demon Lord", but his real name is Zenith. Sen said there's supposed to be a ridiculously dangerous demon lord at the end of each dungeon, though no one has ever really gotten far enough to find this one. Zahedra says Zenith is a flirt.
Ba'alzamon checked with Renedge and was told that it shouldn't be a problem if this dungeon gets destroyed. It might even be a benefit!
Party headed outside, found the wall, buffed up, and then kicked the wall in. Battle against banshees and disguised orcs. It was a brutal fight. Very cinematic, though. Antimagic bomb was set off by one orc late in the fight, disabling all magic items and spell effects aside from the spellcasters themselves and a few artifacts. Kelsey's magic sword was responsible for the spellcasters not losing their spellcasting abilities. The surviving enemies were hatefully stomped.
The gem was found hidden under the stage. After that, the dungeon was coming apart, so the party teleported out through the failing wards to Castle Fallingstar.
Eldrin teleported the group accidentally to a frost-covered cave on the top of a mountain near the Mountain of the Mages. Apparently he almost froze to death here once! Speaking of which, they found the frozen corpse of a younger Eldrin buried under inches of ice. This was from before the Death internship and before the cloning incident. The party retrieved the corpse and went to Castle Fallingstar.
Taivvel Sen was brought with them. Another soul claimed by the lure of Meridan. (People were trying to kill him back on his home continent, so he's not eager to go back immediately.)
Eldrin told Knight that the doomsday weapon was nearly complete. He also has a full report on the lich Eldrin has been working on. Also, Kal'vus has been sending messages to Knight saying Knight still owes him a few duels!
