2024/12/13: Dungeon Speedrun 2 Report
General Summary
Lillith, Ba'alzamon, Eldrin, Malakai, Knight
There are two rooms left on level 10, and the group also has access to level 11. Stayed on floor 10.
Next room had a chest in the middle and lightning running along conduits in the walls. As the group entered the room, they got hit by very angry lightning, which then formed into a 30-foot-tall lightning elemental thing. It ignored most attacks outright. Party ended up destroying the walls, which were continuously casting the elemental(s) as a spell effect. (Vanilla catapulted by Knight and Eldrin, then wrecked the walls using lightsabers empowered by destructive/disintegrating earthquake magics.)
Side note: Apparently Vanilla is using lightsaber shotos now, not lightsaber whips.
Sparking golden/electrum rod in the chest. Rod of Scintillating Blast.
Party headed for the last room. Dodged a group of 7 50-foot-tall golems stomping down the corridor.
Next treasure room had a chicken-sized blue bird sitting on the chest. Green eyes, almost gem-like. Blue gradient of feathers. Rather than fighting the chicken and its hidden swarm of friends, the party had Malakai befriend the chicken (with extra bonuses from Lillith) while Ba'alzamon stole a magic gauntlet from the chest.
Some nice romantic moments between Vanilla and Eldrin. "You at least manage to match her level of screwed up."
Party rested for the night.
Next day, while getting ready to head out, party heard a variety of explosions from the floor below. Another group might be catching up to the party.
Sent Knight down as a scout (as an invisible, psychically camouflaged puddle). Avoided a group of seven colossal hydras. Very earthy level. Found the explosion area. A bunch of remains of dead adventurers, one live on with blue hair, blue cloak, blue sword, crown. Knight gave him a health potion (by popping it out in front of him while pretending to be his shadow). Lillith stealthed down to be diplomatic and give more healing, avoiding the hydras on the way.
The guy was resigned enough to accept healing without struggle. Apparently he was attacked by assassins. Lillith subtly checked him and found that he had a bunch of equipment on him that wasn't his. He'd been looting, apparently. He claimed that the rest of his party had turned out to be assassins sent to kill him.
Introduced himself as Taivvel Sen. He found Lillith's name strange. He turned out to be unfamiliar with elves entirely. His only encounter with similar was with evil fae that could be encountered in dungeons. He's a dragonkin.
Sen was looking for something on level 12. His party did get it, but the assassins got away with it on their way back.
While Sen was getting his world rocked by revelations from the outsider view (and the ability of those outsiders to break into the dungeon and permanently affect the dungeon), Knight headed down to do more scouting.
Sen is a locally well-known bladelord. He claims he's not sure why the assassins were sent, but "it stinks of politics". He decided to join up with the party to get some extra loot and currency from level 11.
The place Sen is from has a very different magic system. Pretty much all favored soul casters using element-focused magic as a blessing from the dragon or human gods. Spell points and all that. The different gods have different favored elements. The continent is mostly populated by dragon-blooded, humans, and orcs, in separate factions.
Next treasure room had a big hydra altar at the back of the room. It animated. Absolutely enormous stone hydra, eight heads.
Sen got to experience the wonders of Haste, Speed of Alkar, and one other speed spell all at once. He doesn't understand how the party's magic works, but he likes them.
