Mark Bourne Character in Relativity | World Anvil

Mark Bourne

Mark Bourne, under the name Mark Brown, is known for being a champion of zombie rights in the USA, which was sparked by the murderer of a friend being acquitted on the grounds that no law yet existed to prohibit the killing of a zombie. He spent most of his fifties campaigning, and in 2091 was recruited by the White House as the first Zombie Ambassador.   During his years as an activist, Mark also put together Gray Eye, a vigilante organisation made up of zombies and other Zartriites who did what the authorities did not yet have the power to do: investigate and protect zombies from individuals or groups who sought to harm them.   Although Mark founded the organisation, he did not take a full-time leadership role; however, he contributed to much of the research side of it. Gray Eye successfully got most members of an anti-zombie terrorist group convicted of various legitimate offences, and resorted to lethal force only when left with no other option in order to protect innocent lives. Some members were subsequently convicted themselves for such acts, but once Mark was appointed Zombie Ambassador, he fought for retrials for them.   Mark's political career was not his first time in the limelight, however. At the age of 30, during his failed acting career in London, he was employed to be the public face of the Solar Triad. A lab mishap resulted in him becoming patient zero in the Zombie Apocalypse in 2066. After the cure was administered eight years later, he fled Britain before he could be arrested and settled in Las Vegas under the name Brown. It was there that he hit rock bottom, before meeting Aviva, the woman whose death gave his life purpose.
