Kiln Figures

Kiln Figures are life-size statues created out of the material quarried from Biaphomor's Clay Pits and animated, able to carry out physical tasks.   Since Nephiglo's biggest Industrial Revolution, Kiln Figures have been used to carry out laborious or dangerous work, especially if there is a shortage of Niglaone labour. Kiln Figures are not considered alive, therefore have no value beyond what they can do. They are very strong, though it is still possible to break them--they are, after all, made out of pottery.   The clay they are made with is unique to those particular Clay Pits; attempts to make Kiln Figures from regular clay have all failed. The clay has been analysed, but even attempts to recreate it by combining its particular components have also failed. Though their animation is generally put down to the presence of operinite in the clay, which is known to be used for Magic, scientists have yet to figure out exactly how it works, given that the mere presence of magical materials does not automatically make an object magical.   Kiln Figures are sculpted into rough shapes approximating those of a Niglaone, though there are no aesthetic requirements, and placed in an industrial kiln, hence their name. Once the fired figures have cooled to a certain point, they begin to move, and are able to take simple orders.   While Kiln Figures are usually produced for industrial use, there is a market on Nephiglo for personal Kin Figures for various functions.
