The Mage City

The largest city in Reeqith and seat of power for both the Mages and the Knights of Zamros. This sprawling metropolis resides in a lake surrounded on all sides by snow capped mountains, due to the height of the mountains the sun only shines fully on the city during its peak heights in the summer and casts long shadows over the city the rest of the year. Legend says that the lake itself was made when a great rock fell from the sky and destroyed the mountains that were central to the range, over long years the rain waters filled the crater until only the surface of the rock was visible, which is where the mages were instructed to found their city by the Gods themselves.   Due to its obscure location there are only two conventional ways into the city, these are the tunnels that head through the mountains and connect with the world outside. If you are a mage or know a mage you have another option through the use of the teleportation circle in the Mage complex.   The city itself is almost entirely constructed in white marble and slate roofs, the layout was deigned when the city was built and it has never been expanded since that day. Above the walls and buildings of the city stand two immense towers, each topped with a large golden dome that reflects the suns weak light to illuminate the city below. The towers are the seats of power of the Knights of Zamros and the Mages. The city itself is laid out in sections around the central temples to the Gods.   To the South lies the seat of power of the Knights of Zamros, keepers of the peace, defenders and jailers of mages. It is said that their tower is immune to magic and deep beneath the earth lies the prisons designed to contain evil magic users.   To the North sits the Mage Complex, a series of buildings around their central tower that act as a home and school for mages and pupils. Beneath the Tower, which acts as the home and seat of power for the mages, is a large vault that contains secrets that the mages and knights protect, however no mage or knight has ever openly acknowledged its existence.   Now the city itself has been torn apart by a civil war in the mages and the Knights of Zamors with many being killed on both sides, it is currently unclear who is now in charge of the most powerful city in the realm or what their purpose is.

Demographics

The City is about the only place where any one particular demographic would be able to fit in with no issues, you can find someone from just about every law abiding race living and working across the city.

Government

Ruled by the council of the Mages, they however leave the day to day running of the city to the Knight of Zamros.
Beneath the Mage Tower is the Vault, an unknown area where the mages store all their items of power and the seals that have been returned to the mages control. The Vault can only be opened with a combination of magic and mundane keys, which requries both the Mages and the Knights of Zamros to open.   In the centre of the Vault in a great room stands a giant marble tablet, made of one giant piece that could never have made it through the doors, there are no signs of joins or even tool marks. In the top centre stands a picture of a great bird, the size is hard to tell but given the perspective of the mountains it must be colossal indeed. Further images on the tablet show the creature bursting forth from beneath mountains, the creature locked in some form of combat with 2 other creatures of similar size, one appearing to be a great leviathan and the other some huge horned behemoth. Other images show the creature tearing apart dragons and consuming something from inside of it. At the very bottom of the tablet shows the great leviathan residing below deep water and the behemoth laying down with trees growing from it.
