Creation
The Beckoned are raised into undeath by
Shia, the God of Death directly, oftentimes being horses raised specifically to be ritually sacrificed to the god, although there are exceptions. Many of the beckoned are centuries old and were raised from warhorses that perished in battle. Although newly created beckoneds are often nearly indistinguishable from living horses, aside from their death wounds, over time the horses' bodies decay and become obviously rotten, moldy, and in some places, skeletal. Oftentimes the mounts are repaired using parts from other animals or even combining parts from different steeds together if one is decayed too far to be repaired.
Access
Only high ranking officials within death's cult are allowed to use the Beckoned, with all outsiders to the cult being forbidden from riding the beasts without explicit permission from a high priest. Officials allowed to use the creatures are most often festival organizers, High Priests, or Shia's Dead tasked with aiding the cult that do not have other means of transportation.
