Mera

Mera is an archipelago type continent located in the Central Sea. Nearly all of its islands are controlled by Union of Mera. It is home to Meradians and dragonkin such as dragons, dragonborn, lizardfolk and kobolds.   Dragonkin live in the mountainous northern islands, while Meradians live in the central islands filled with jungles, and tropical islands to the south.   Mera used to be a one single piece of land with nearly no notable islands. However, when Tiamat is summoned and the Shattering hit, the whole continent tattered and scattered into small pieces.

History

First Arrivals in Mera

It is thought that first humanoids came to the dragonland of Mera mostly from Ald Albra, and to some extent, Aethra, around 8.000 P.Ö. when Mera was a solid, one piece continent., It was full of dangerous jungles to the south with a lot of biodiversity, and a fierce mountain range to the north. Mankinds first contact with the dragonkin was not pleasant, as the dragons didn't want foreign races in their territory. However, due to dragonkin being mostly tribal back then (and most of the dragons still being young) they couldn't defeat Meradians who had far superior military tools and tactics. Still, these weren't enough to completely defeat the dragonkin either, and they could only secure a decent sized territory in the southern coast.   For hundreds, even thousands of years, Meradians prospered with the riches of the jungle and the ocean around them, while also conflicted with the dragonkin. They slowly gained more and more land, and advanced deeper into the continent.

The Shattering of Mera

Around 170 P.S, nearly 8000 years after Meradians first came to Mera, leader of the Meradians, Nan la Vontrus, waged an all out war against dragonkin in hopes to regain the control of the whole continent. The war lasted for nearly 20 years, until they drove the dragonkin to the northern mountains. With a last act of desperation, dragonkin attempted to summon Tiamat beyond the Veil. They succeeded, but it cost them. With a deity taking a step into the material plane for the first time in almost 10.000 years, the whole continent shattered like a piece of glass, nearly destroying it in the process.   Both sides lost hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people. Cities became ruins at the depths of the ocean, mountains got flattened, and the land itself scattered into thousands of small islands.   After the Dragon Queen Tiamat saw the devastated land, she decided that this broken land was not worthy for her children, and fixated her eyes to the continent of Aethra as a suitable home, later starting the Invasion of Tiamat.   Most of the metallic dragons did not follow Tiamat, and stayed on Mera, saying that it was not right to take other people's home, and that they wouldn't be any different than Meradians. However, six sibling metallic dragons saw the danger Tiamat possessed for the people on other continents, and flew to Aethra in order to help them defeat Tiamat. These six dragons later got named "Six Dragon Archons." Nidhogg of the Silver, Vishap of the Brass, Servastra of the Golden, Aphophis of the Bronze, Yamnair of the Steel and Ailzrym of the Copper. Last two, Yamnair and Ailzrym perished during the Invasion, and the other four mysteriously vanished after the defeat of Tiamat.

New Era for Mera

After the Shattering, both metallic dragons and Meradians decided to stop fighting, and even helped eachother to gather their strength again. With Nan la Vontrus's death during the Shattering, it almost seemed like the hate between mankind and dragonkind died as well. Meradians retreated to southern islands, and left the mountainous islands in north to dragonkin.   Meradians established many new cities and even city-states in these newly created islands. In 302 P.S, these city-states formed a federation under the name of Meradian Union.   With their continent turning into an archipelago, Meradians started to build a lot ships. By using an endemic tree called Fobwa, and combining its wood with their newly discovered, special runecrafting skills, they created an amazingly strong and sturdy wood called Meranwood. This wood was heavier than other woods, but it's strength made up for its heaviness. This wood was compeletely fireproof, and stronger than steel. Even though it wasn't as strong, it was lighter and more flexible than stone, thus making it an incredible building material.   By using Meranwood, Meradians built the strongest fleets and armadas the world has ever seen. They started to rule the entire Central Sea, and made a lot of trade agreements with the other three main continents. They started to reach their prosperity level before the Shattering in just a few decades by exporting the riches of Mera.   They also sold Meranwood to other continents, but since the art of carving Meranwood was special to Meradians, none of them could master over Meranwood as they did, and could build only walls with it at most.

Meradian Civil War

In 564 P.S, after more than 250 years of its foundation, some city-states began to get carried away by their prosperity. Some of them started to denounce, and show hate towards the dragonkin. However, not wanting to destroy the peace between dragonkin and men, and witness a calamity like Shattering, many other city-states objected them, and this quickly triggered a civil war.   Civil War lasted for nearly six years, but ended with the defeat of the dragonkin-haters. Meradian Union got dissolved after the war, and the Union of Mera has founded. The difference of Union of Mera was that, Meradians also offered an alliance to the dragonkin. Dragonkin accepted this offer, and officially joined the Union of Mera, thus making this the first alliance between dragon and men. The regime of the Union has also changed to a more republic oriented regime, rather than a aristocratic one.   Even to this day, Union of Mera is still one of the strongest and richest nations in the known world, and feared by many because of their astonishing armada and draconic allies.
