The Sundering

"The world shuddered as if struck by a debilitating blow. Buildings came cascading down like dominoes. Tidal waves drowned the coast in their salty embrace. Fires ravaged the forest incinerating anything it touched. Entire kingdoms destroyed in a blink of an eye and drowned in the land and sea. That was just day one of the Sundering."   ~ Scholar of the Endless Archives

The Sundering affected the whole Material Plane and has changed the face of the planet. The oceans grew in size and drowned low altitude lands expanding the seas and creating the Clumarian Ocean, the ocean between Safel and the Hinterlands. A prominent landmark of the Clumarian Ocean is the archipelago of Thrul's Seeds.   The Artinellis Ocean grew in depth as the tectonic plates shifted creating the Hungering Maw. The Artinellis Ocean is also now home to a chain of active underwater volcanoes the people of Utagosh call the Dragons Spine. The Artinellis Ocean's floor is peppered with the ruins of kingdoms of a bygone age. The ruins are pretty much unexplored due to their depths.   The island continent Zathren was shifted and was slammed into the southern continent of Safel during the Sundering. The sudden inclusion of new land caused political chaos. War broke out between the two different cultures and it ended with the Zathren culture being absorbed. The continent of Zathren was renamed Karthazan.   Uta'gosh lost part of the Golden Plains of Flubom by the flooding and connected the Storms Eye Lake to the Artinellis Ocean. The lands were also shifted into a swirl pattern as a massive whirlpool tried to drag the lands into the deep blue. The standing Storm Lord, Xoroch the Calm Thunder, and the Lords of the other Giant tribes used their understanding of druidic magic to resist the whirlpool.
